I'll echo others mention of Yelp! off Greenwell Springs Road (near the old Real Superstore-behind a pet supply place and next to a Vet). Adopted a Jack Russel mix from there, where poor thing had been for a year or so. Great place. Yelp also does adoptions at the Petco next to Trader Joes.

CAAWS sucks. They literally turned us down for adopting two dogs. Wouldn't even give us a reason. Just a bunch of haughty fricks. I suspect the foster owners just didn't want to give up the dogs.

Check out the Feliciana Animal Welfare Society (FAWS). They're right off of HWY 19 just north of Ethel.
