Fuquay-Varina again in a heartbeat. Close enough to Raleigh if you want to do city stuff, but still small town/country appeal. Lives there for years and loved it.
I don’t know how long you’ve been away but it has changed ALOT in the last few years. They’ve done a great job with downtown but the area is growing. Angier is the new Fuquay

What lake is in Raleigh?
Jordan Lake just southwest and Falls Lake just north. Both state parks, so no real estate on the lake, but great recreation.

We’re just outside of Raleigh in a town called Apex (suburb of Raleigh). Bought a house right before covid. Pretty happy about that..
Tons of restaurants and small breweries within walking distance to 10min drive. Good state and local parks and a few big lakes. 2.5 hours to the beach, 2.5 hours to the mountains

Planet Davidson. Great place on Lake Norman. What lake is in Raleigh?
While I’ll agree that Norman is one of the best places to be in the Carolina’s, lake Jordan in the RDU area ain’t bad at all.

I have always thought living in Richmond would be cool.
It is.

Just make sure your homeowner’s covers falling objects.

I know all the roads around Falls Lake like the back of my hand.

Lol, me too but compared to Raleigh the Charlotte plusses are:
Lake Norman and Lake Wiley
Close enough to live in SC for better taxes and no auto inspection
Many many breweries
NFL, NBA and MLS (sissy kickball)
Uptown and Southend
Whitewater Center (US Olympic training center)
Five star restaurants
Mecklenburg Co. Parks & Rec is top notch
Charlotte Douglas International Airport
The concert scene is top notch
Bowl games and host to NCAA regionals and Final Four
And if you like, NASCAR and Drag Racing

Raleigh, Durham, Chapil Hill...all so close together. Was just there the past few days for Futures Swimming Championship and love that area.

Both are nice places to live. I live in Raleigh and travel to Charlotte regularly for work.
They are similar in a lot of ways. Both are growing rapidly and have strong economies. Similar climates. Both retain some southern feel, but you won't think you are in the deep south. Neither has a really unique cultural feel, but both are properly functioning places.
There are of course differences. Charlotte has a larger downtown (uptown) which feels more like a big city. Raleigh feels smaller. Charlotte has a ton of jobs in the financial industry. Raleigh is more tech and Life science oriented.
Of the two I'd probably pick Charlotte for a young single professional and Raleigh for a family, but again both are nice places.
