How do you spot the Marine at a party?
Just wait. He'll tell you... and EVERYONE else after 2 drinks
LOL...hard to argue the above. We've all witnessed this behavior. I personally make a conscious effort to never bring it up in mixed company. If I'm in a large group, I do enjoy identifying a fellow Marine and engaging them in conversation. It's a small Corps and chances are we share common experiences.
quote:
You join the Army and are called a soldier. You join the Navy and are called a sailor. You join the Airforce and are called an airman. You don't join the Marines, you BECOME a Marine.
The Air Force is a lot like a regular job while wearing a uniform. The Navy is like the Air Force, just on a ship. The Army is what everyone thinks of when they think of a job in the military without specification. That is why folks call people from any of the armed forces "soldiers". Army personnel hate this. The Army will always be a part of person that served or even retired from the Army, but it doesn't really define who they "are". A former Marine (discharged or retired) will generally always consider themselves a Marine first and whatever they are doing now as a subset of their existence. They BECAME a Marine and you can never take that from them; it will never be the second thing they are. The person that wrote this was a school teacher that retired from the Army. A Marine would be a Marine that happens to teach school now.
The above statement is correct. I understand that it's difficult for non-Marines to grasp, which is why I try not to bring up being a Marine while in mixed company. Whether they bring it up or not, I can ALWAYS spot fellow Marines in public. Other Marines understand what I'm saying...we can spot each other a mile a way.

Ha...not only did I retire from the Corps, I would wager I currently pay more in income taxes annually than you make annually in wages. So...STTDB.

They dislike the term “soldier” being used as a catch all. They don’t dislike being referred to as soldiers themselves.
