I don't like when a university engaged in speech enforcement. It is a dangerous road to have people determine what and what not is acceptable.
You learn behaviours from your parents and your peers and from what they allow you to believe is acceptable. A university is the first big handoff between the two.
IMO - It is up to the school to pick up the mantle of building a better person. Condoning this type behaviour through non-action would be disgusting.

Maybe for the gov't. Who would want to work for the gov't anyways. He did himself a favor.
plenty of jobs require a clearance and you don't work for the gov't
wtf are you talking about

So every time a person is hired in the U.S. their name is googled?
like for a legitimate company? almost assuredly
quote:
None of my employers google the names of the people their hiring. They actually have work to do as opposed to sitting around googling every applicant that walks through the door to see if they made a few racist comments at their frat party at OU
your company doesn't have an HR department?

I'll bet his dad is mad not ashamed, chances are the son learned that attitude at home.
Sad but true
this stuff starts and home, anyone brought up right and with real values would not join in on this or be so easily influenced to fit in by doing this.

Until a company google's his name and this comes up
They won't even have to do that. Type in his name on twitter and there's thousand of tweets with the video attached to it.

And I'm pretty sure it is standard practice for any job worth a damn at this point. Background checks are pretty common too.

Did you not catch my sarcasm?
This board goes into unjust assaults and tirades on black parenthood if a black child sneezes on himself. So I used the same illogical, off base rhetoric that is prevalent in these parts.
Clearly, the kids learned this behavior from somewhere, but they are old enough to know right from wrong. Their parents can't do much now

If you fricked up and it made it to social media in any way, shape, or form in this day and age, you bet your arse that shite will follow you to any job worth a damn that you apply for.

In 25 years, what position of power will these kids be in? That's the question. Will they inn charge of hiring people, making laws, enforcing laws, teaching our kids?

well in a very slight defense, group-social pressure in a 10 second moment in life can paint anyone in a bad light
i'm not saying that there should be NO response, but an investigation should be done and due process should be offered
let's all remember the last national story involving allegations against a frat and how that ended up

Wow, that is just awful. I did a lot of stupid things in my day, but these kids were not only acting completely ignorant, they also just hurt chances of finding good jobs right out of college or in the near future.

These kids are a mess. With this attitude, they'll use their money, status, and power to screw over far more people than any group of street thugs ever dreamed of being able to affect. And they will all be called honorable men.
This is the main problem. Their words don't hurt, it's their behavior and their willingness to hold these beliefs in private. How am I supposed to trust that these kids will give their minority applicants, customers, patients, defendants, etc fair and equal treatment?
These kids will be successful and how will we know that their prejudices won't be used to screw people over in things that really matter likd jobs, healthcare, school applicants, law defense, Etc.

Oh I agree. Difference between this case and that other one is solid evidence. Buy yeah... I'd love to be a fly on the wall in those parents' homes.

We don't, but to be fair that could be said of almost anyone.
