I like the generic signs that say "School Zone 20MPH when flashing" and there are no flashing light signals installed anywhere near that sign.
Point to ponder: You turn onto a street from a side street into the middle of a school zone...but there was no signage to indicate you were entering a school zone, either from the side street or the middle part of the school zone. How would you know to go 20 MPH?

You've just turned onto a street in the middle of a school zone how fast did you make the turn? How fast are you going to accelerate to >20 mph? Do you think you'd be doing 25 mph in just a half a school zone?
And if you're in the middle of a school zone, you should be able to see the school. That would be one big clue.
