Thank god they are minorities, those kids never would have had a shot at Berkeley otherwise

These people are so desperate for a 60's-like cause, but come off looking stupid and intolerant. I bet none of those folks protesting are working towards a real degree.

This sounds like something Wile E. Coyote would do against the Roadrunner. Are you going to buy your cactus from the Acme Cactus Company??

Cal Berkeley is a leader in technology patents. I'm going out on a limb and guessing that none of these SJW's will contribute to any of it.

They only let the dumb ones in to boost their diversity numbers.

No, but they'll buy it like candy all the while complaining about evil, profit-making corporations. They're so stupid, but this is pretty much your modern democrat party.

is there only one way into this campus? Seems like every 'student' attempting to go to class was staged.
I didn't get that impression at all.

Did I hear one protestor scathing a white student on his way to class about “probably having white privilege”? Wtf.
That’s plain racism. That kid didn’t choose to be white. He was born that way and you’re berating him for it? How does no one see the hypocrisy in this? For all that a-hole knows, that kid could be a crack baby from a foster home on full scholarship with a black girlfriend.
The biggest issue I have with these protests is that a lot of them are worthy causes that are getting completely lost by the methods in which they are protesting. Police overreach and brutality is a real thing, but this is not the way to show it. Its counterproductive because it makes people see the protestors instead of the issue and immediately dismiss it all.
I would have lost my shite if I was trying to get to an important class/test and they stopped me like that. There would have been a physical altercation.

This is the MO of privilege philosophy. Hey, let's blame societal problems on individuals. Because them feeling bad about themselves is going to solve everything.

I get you're point, and can rationalize it, but doesn't some of the onus fall on listener. It's says a bit about the listener if they are unresponsive to screams.
Nope. A newborn baby cries when left alone in a crib to sleep at first. The baby needs to sleep by itself. So it cries itself to sleep.
If the crying is over a perceived slight like that makes no sense, it means basically that it can be ignored and that the crying child will eventually learn to sleep by itself.
The worst thing to do was to give these people any publicity.
quote:
It has evolved to this point because the listener ignores and doesn't listen.
Actually, as is common, you are wrong yet again. The listener listens, finds the crying to be about something that is in fact stupid, and chooses to ignore.
quote:
How has the grievances?
Not even sure what this means...
quote:
Who is the slighted?
I think the kids that were blocked from class were the slighted.
quote:
Perhaps the listeners should stop feeling offend (besides that one guy in the video, the movement isn't individually targeting people) and open up their ears to their fellow citizens.
Most people do listen. They quickly see many of these stupid things by young people and perceived wrongs are nothing more than just that.
I'm sorry you didn't score high enough on your SAT or ACT. I'm sorry that you didn't work hard enough in school. I know you are a unique person, but there are 6 billion other unique people out there as well.
But you actually needed to work harder when you were in school. You needed to study then. Hell, go back to a school, work your arse off again, get great grades and transfer in. You are working with your previous performance against you, but heck, you might make it.
People usually do listen to these types of things. However, the fact is that they quickly decide if the people are worth listening to and these guys aren't.
And yes, these people are actively targeting many people by blocking their path to school. Instead of blocking the path of someone who wants to go to school, maybe they should be in school.
quote:
By any means necessary is the by product of ignoring injustices for hundreds of years.
Does anyone even believe this anymore? I mean do you even believe this?
Lets look at this. Every new group that came to this country faced discrimination. The irish, the italians, the polish all faced discrimination when they first came over. Hard work quickly assimilated them into society.
Oh, I know, you will say that they all look alike so lose the accent and they can all blend in and no one knows who is who. Great.
Lets talk about the Asians then. They were brought over to basically work on the railroads and were brutalized. However, they worked harder than any other segment and forced their children into school. Last time I checked, you can look at an Asian and usually identify them as asian. But heck, they are the opposite of the point you are trying to make. They were discriminated against before because they were new to this country and interestingly enough, now they are discriminated again because they are so successful.
So, let me put it to you this way. Stop waiting for someone else to lift you out of the predicament you find yourself in. I was raised in a poor white rural area with pretty bad school. You know what that opportunity gave me?
Well, since I was from an underrepresented area in these colleges minds, I was accepted to just about any college I wanted to go to. Don't get me wrong, I had to work my arse of in school to get to that point. There is no doubt that if I had been born to a money family and attended better school, I could have had a much easier path than what I had. But you know what?
This is really the secret to life here. I hate to tell you this. I really do. You can probably google this little tidbit and probably find other links to back up this little bit of advice, but here it is, just for you...
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
Life isn't fair.
Life is what it is and if you haven't heard this yet, life is what YOU make of it. It is not what other people make life for you.
