I'm not saying I would have taken the same action the shooter did. If the perp was just rummaging around in my yard I most likely would have called the police just like most here would do. It's real easy to say you would have no problem shooting someone but when it comes down to it I'm sure it's really difficult. The shooter was retired military so he may have had some experience on taking a life. The bottom line is the perp took a chance and he lost.

Update to the story

quote:

The man, identified as 22-year-old Seth Flores, was seen beating on a car in the Ozone Woods subdivision, and yelled he was "invincible" before he was shot, officials said. The homeowner, 24-year-old Shane Hicks, told deputies he went outside when he heard shouting Monday morning, at which point he saw Flores.

quote:

Deputies reported that Flores had been in an altercation at his girlfriends's residence nearby. She reported that Flores had consumed a large amount of "Triple C" cold medicine,
and was attacking her and her mother, prompting them to call 911.

Guy was high on cold medicine

Exactly right. If I go outside and confront this dude looking to be John Rambo, and he is armed I have exposed myself and my kids to unnecessary risk. Everyone is much safer with 911 on the speaker phone, in a defensive position, and the 12 gauge pointed at the door.

Are yall really that terrified to hide and wait with a gun pointed at the door?

If I hear something outside or my dogs are acting up....I'm checking it out.

You don't have to be John Rambo just to investigate what is going on outside.

I'm going to check it out and take the appropriate measures.

Hey everybody, Flores allegedly after screaming at homeowner started coming toward homeowner to confront him. Caused the homeowner to back against his front door. Perpetrator then started grabbing at weapon and owner. Owner fired once which hit perp. Perp continued the altercation causing the owner to double tap and fire more rounds. Why did the owner have to fire more rounds because law enforcement stated they believe the dead man was allegedly high on narcotics in which the dead man would not be controlled by anyone. Has anyone seen what a person on pcp can do to somebody. Several police officers have been killed in the line of duty trying to arrest suspects on narcotics like that.

Fox 8 just had an interview of the fiance. She's proof that people watch too much TV. She claims that the homeowner could've shot her pos boyfriend in the leg. She said 5 shots were overkill even though the evidence shows that one shot was fired and the guy kept coming so he got 5 to the chest. The shots were fired from less than 3' away and the homeowner was in his doorway. That drugged up douche picked the wrong house that night.

I know exactly what you are saying. First shot three feet away and the guy is still coming! What the girlfriend doesnt realize that perp in his state of mind had he got the weapon from the homeowner the homeowner would be dead. I watched in a bar one night 8 deputies subdue this PCP loaded guy then place and strap him to a stretcher. The guy broke the straps a nd had to be subdued again. And it literally took all 8 deputies to subdue this 175 lb guy. My point is again the homeowner could be the one we are mourning. All evidence is in now. Mr. Ricks did what he had to do.

Seems like everyone ran away now that the homeowner isn't Rambo and didn't do anything that a normal person wouldn't do.

Just doesn't fit their narrative any more so soon the dumbasses are gone.

Many people think this way for some reason. Maybe movies. Anyhow, after the Slidell Police took down the perp in Friday's Chineese resturant robery, a guy on FB stated that the SPD did a fine job due to their training in shooting to disable. Not shooting to kill.
over 20 shots were fired between the perp and the SPD. I told the FB guy to go ask SPD if they train to shoot to wound.

Pretty sure most of those responses were to people in this thread who said calling the cops makes you a pussy and you should go outside and confront the man.

After reading the article in the Advocate, no way the homeowner gets charged.

This cat had just gotten out of jail and he had a prior drug issue with Triple C. He then has an altercation at his girlfriends house where the police were called. He showed evidence of being in a prior altercation with bite marks, bruises, and cuts on his body.

No way the homeowner should be charged. Flores went to the wrong house and he paid the price. Case closed.

I have a buddy that drank a bottle of extra strength robitussin at the Tarpon Rodeo in the late 90's. He started wigging out in his motel room screaming he was Jesus. The motel manager came to his room and my buddy punched him in the mouth. The cops showed up and asked him if he punched the manager and my buddy said no, I punched a cop, and proceeded to punch the cop. It took 6 police to cuff a 150 pound punk suped up on robo. That shite will make you crazy.
