You can get the setup I have (Celestron 130 ) plus a 2x Barlow and stay under $500. While it does have the jiggly mount flaw, it is still a very noce system for th.e money. But if I could find something comparable with a sturdier mount for another $100 or so, it would be well worth it.

For the price you are talking I like this one.

Although for a little more I prefer this one.

I love astronomy. Personally I've had really good luck going out into the country with binoculars. Obviously you could do even better with a nice telescope.

I feel like I would have a ton of fun if I got one with a camera attached so you could take pictures of what you see. Im sure they are super expensive though.
