The rare times I have gone to the one around here, they have been out of hamburger meat. .....every single time.

A fresh whopper and fries was unbeatable back in the day

I took the challenge this week. The other day I had the Big Arch. Yesterday I got the Whopper. Whopper won hands down. It's not much different from the older whopper, though it's been a little while.
That being said... I had 2 fast food burgers in a week. Pray for me.
My body must be wondering what it did wrong for the torture.

You start to see trends in the way everything operates. A new product launches. All the stops are pulled and it's well-received. Everyone loves it, and it becomes a success.
Then, the cost-cutting measures start. Little by little, over time, the products gets a little worse every so often. People hang onto nostalgia and remember it better than it is. Many stick around simply because of memories.
It isn't until it's obvious that after the death by a thousand cuts that this is just a much worse product than what you remember that you stop.
The main problem isn't just Burger King, but the entire food industry that has been taken over by profit over product. Even going to the grocery store yields inferior food essentials. Everything from bread to beef has been altered beyond what I remember 50+ years ago. It's just not the same.
By this point, I'm fairly certain that even if you raised your own cattle and let them graze in a field - everything has been so tampered with that what you're getting today is so genetically modified (ourselves included) that there's no going back.
The death of the whopper is just one of the many canaries in the coal mine that will be ignored.
