So kinda like a rec league, then the AAA kids make the all star team, and then the all star team plays in 3 or so tournaments and then plays in a district tournament, and if they win that, they then go play in state, then regional, then a world series?
What a concept.
That's of course EXACTLY how it used to be.
except the whole year is wasted playing crap AA level ball or even lower.
like i said....most 12u LL all star teams might have 1 kid throwing above 60. 1....most good 10u tournaments at the high AAA and Majors level....have that on every team or close.
and maybe thats how babe ruth was done in nola but in dixie and LL there is about 12-14 regular season games, district tournament, state tournament, regionals and then world series. there are no other tournaments and very very few teams make it outside district. less than 10 across the state
so 98% of the kids would play less than 20 games total....then put the ball down until next feb....yea thats not a system that is good for development.

ground balls and fly balls are bad? What a novel concept.
not all fly balls, depends on what type of hitter they are. but yea... i never ever ever said different. you are the one that doesnt understand launch angle and think it means hitting the ball 45 degrees or higher.

You said ground balls were automatic outs and should not be taught. All I said was tell that to Dylan Crews. He thinks differently and you had a freak out.

That is why the Select Series works. Strong teams competing against strong teams each week.
select series is awesome. absolutely love it. the PG NITs are pretty awesome too. the 2d NIt was actually best tournament of the year imo. the invite only USSSA in Alexandria was pretty awesome too.
i personally like to play the best in state teams.

OTC in SELA is basically people that got tired of the politics / BS in U Trip, so they created their own politcs / BS in OTC.
It's all watered down at that level. Because even at AA, half those kids shouldn't even be in AA.
To bring this back to the original post... the kids I know who play in PG and the other high level tournaments, their parents are not going to the Foley outlet mall to buy "merch" at a world series.
And U-Trip won't change as long as the cash keeps flowing in.
100% watered down. imo its fine at 7-9 but by 10...need to be getting close to being AAA and if after 12 you aint atleast AAA....its just rec ball.
which i get cause not many 13/14 year rec leagues in the state anymore. so alot of those kids who are not ready to give up on baseball end up on AA teams. by 14 when it moves to big field you got AA teams with kids that literally cant hit it out the infield and cant make a throw from 3rd to 1st.
its why the percentage of kids that drop baseball once they get to the big field is so high. that and the amount of work it takes to be good at baseball weeds people out.

did you look at the link i posted? the BA shows ground balls are a really low percentage play. and yea you shouldnt teach that and you said....so you teach lazy pop flyes....because you dont understand what launch angle even is.

it is if you want to develop
if you think 20 games is enough to develop than you dont know shite about youth baseball as it stands today.

I know what launch angle is. The original concept was big league hitters to hit more home runs and get more RBI for a “moneyball” system. The new hitting fad is creating bat path to elevate balls. The problem is that if you don’t look like Kris Bryant that it doesn’t work.
I was talking to a college coach in the state this week that said he had a kid as a Fr who hit .350 plus then went to a hitting guru to hit more him runs and hit .250 this past year. All because of bat path and trying to create lift which lead to getting beat and jammed and soft elevated contact. This was at the D1 level.
Cut the ball in half, line drives and hard ground balls is old and successful. Backspun balls lead to home runs. New launch angle philosophy and bat pathing creates top spin. It doesn’t work in HS+ against velo. (Unless you are a freak athlete and Big League pro.)
But keep doing you. Keep using MLB statistics and philosophy on 8 year olds. Hope it works out for them.

this is what you keep saying but thats not what i am saying. you literally do not understand launch angle and exit velo and the relationship. nor do you understand bat path, attack angle, VBA etc....
typical of old school people who dont understand technology.
so i guess ted williams was wrong huh? we should just swing down right?
go suck off Jeff Frye and the other 90 iq guys who rail about swinging down because that is what they felt instead of what they actually did.

Develop what? Your kid isn’t going pro. He’s going to take these baseball skills to the job market?

Jesus christ, this is so fricking dumb.
So the only benefit of team sports is to reach professional level?

The velo ted Williams saw wasn’t very hard. But it isn’t a down swing. The barrel cannot go flat before entering the hitting zone. If it does, it creates drag and a slow bat that leads to getting jammed or spinning off.
The idea is if you think you are swinging “level” you will naturally be on plane with the ball. Anything to do with getting the barrel under the ball is doomed before it even starts.
“Short to it, long through it”, barrel does not level out until it reaches the hitting zone and stays level a long time. That is the goal.
And catching it out front (on the upswing) naturally gives you launch angle you are looking for. Again it is contact point more than bat path.

who said anything about pro?? or even going to play college ball? why is this the go to when this is brought up?
develop into the best he can be with his genetics.
so since your philosophy is we should only develop items that we are going to use for the job market...why practice at all? hell why even play sports at all since apparently only thing that matters is developing skills for the job market??
you realize you can work at a sport and be really good in school right? you also realize there are a ton of lessons to be learned in developing in sports and how hard work translates to success?
did you play sports at all? what do you do for a living?

So are you a hands to the ball guy or turn the barrel guy?

Why do people say this stuff? It obviously happens to some parent’s kids…all the pros were in fact born to two parents.

Knob to the ball. Barrel follows the knob. (Try it on a tee).
Turning the knob creates a barrel too flat too early and the dragging effect I was talking about earlier.
