I have a ME degree and am currently with WFT. The best advice I can give you is to stay out of operations. It's a giant cluster-frick with no end in sight. Get a position within a product line or the global business unit.

hope you don't lose your job man. I lost mine when Smith International bought Pathfinder back in '09, but it was the best thing to ever happen to me. Good luck man.
ETA: try to get on with Weatherford
worked for Smith Bits for 5 years

Redstick hook a buddy up and get me a line on a MWD/LWD gig.
I figured it would work this way, price of oil starts dropping right when I am graduating.

You should really stick around in my opinion... BHI completions is one of the main reasons for the acquisition and your job security will be much greater than if you were working in say wireline or cement or frac, which might would lead me to look at other opportunities.
Plus there will likely be a pretty decent retention bonus for sticking around a couple of years.
Whatever you do... DO NOT pursue working for SLB.

That must be nice. I work for a super major and I don't even think my Drilling Manager knows me.

Dont guess yal know any hiring managers looking for MWD/LWDs huh? I grad in Dec., have offers but none in drilling which is my preferred choice.

Could I live in the south or do I have to live in the area? I dont care about have to travel, as it stands right now they offer I will prob accept unless something better comes up will have me on 24/7 call everyday of the year.

1) I wouldn't pack the bags just yet. The Feds have to approve the merger and I think it will be a tough uphill battle. Expect the super majors to come out against it because it will leave just 2 major service companies left. So I will only be able to run off two service companies instead of 3.
2) I'd be leery of leaving a job until we see the price of oil going back up. Especially going to SLB. They are quick to lay-off and they will start with the new hires. Trust me on this one. New hires w/experience are easy ways to cut cost. I left BJ Services for SLB and was laid off within the year( with the rest of the experienced new hires) and they kept all of the no experienced new hires.
3) Weatherford is a good company but what exactly do you want to do? What is the end goal? Do you see yourself as a company man? Working for a major approving and reviewing third party completion jobs? Work towards that goal and don't take jobs that will not add to your resume. The caveat is if that is the job you want to do and they are offering you life changing money. If you want to be an FE forever and Weatherford gives you a shite ton of more money than do it. Don't change careers for 10k and a promise.
Goodluck and PM me if you have questions.

While I have experience its not in what they are hiring me for so hopefully I will be kept on if they start cutting.

sounds like you are already in the oilfield if you work for a services company

We do fly people up here. there is a staff house where people stay that travel from texas and louisiana. of course if its down to you and a local they will take the local as it is cheaper
Posted on 11/19/14 at 6:43 pm to Nado Jenkins83
Yea I understand that they will go with the local first. Is it a 30&30 for out of town guys or just as long as the job takes? I am diff interested if yal have any openings.
