Dumbass, that's type 2. Type 1 is born that away. And yes if they don't eat carbs timed around the insulin, they die.

I've known several type 1 people and all of them were skinny.
I developed type 2 about 7 years ago because I was a dumbass. Dropped 100 lbs and got it under control. Just have to know what you can and can't eat.

This. My grandmother never weighed more than 115 and she developed type 2 in her late 60s... like a late onset allergy. It was really sad. She had to have toes amputated from it.

Son is type 1 since he was 2. Edit: he is 15 now. Many sleepless nights. Things were great prior to ACA. Now costs $2500-3000 out of pocket annually. Technology is getting better, but afarid it will costs more in 2020. Dont care as long as he's healthy.

Other than cost, the management of type 1 is the best its ever been. Technology like Dexcom and T slim are game changers but the cost is high.
The Dexcom reps I work with claim in 5 to 10 years fingerpricks will be a thing of the past. With widespread usage the cost should come down.
If you have type 1 you need to be well versed on exactly how your insurance works. Dexcom cost are usually cheaper thru pharmacy benefits but dont apply to your medical deductible. Dme cost for Dexcom are higher but do go towards your medical deductible. Patients need to have a clear understanding of how their benefits work.

My son is Type 1 the test strips through the insurance company was double the price I could get them off of Ebay. My company got us on a program where they sent us a tester and strips for free.

Walmart insulin performs MUCH differently than the good modern insulins... Walmart insulin isn't a great solution at all, it should be a last resort.
