Loop through manchac swamp? Good luck with that.
I was looking earlier and 74 has no on ramp and has plenty of room if they built an expressway next to it, elevated. Would be little if any effect to the existing swamplands there. And the only neighborhoods closer to 73 would be remotely affected. Upper middle class folks like Willcover might bitch and moan but that's maybe 1500 residents?

What is funny about this? I am sure they could buy out a lot of peoples' property and make it happen. But it just doesn't seem worth it with all the empty space south of Plaquemine.

Because there's never been an interstate built through a swamp before?

Right. The size of Plaquemine itself seems rather insignificant in this discussion. What is it, like 10 blocks wide along the river.

This will likely be better than any plan our good ol boy legislators propose.
If you could connect i10 and i12 through prairievile and denham/walker then you'd only need one bypass instead of two. I'm guessing a northern bypass would be cheaper.

and turn Airline Hwy into an interstate from i12 to well across the bridge and back to i10.
That was part of the original plan.

Cries of racism would rain down from the heavens if they tried that. There is a whole lot of nothing south of plaq.
Agreed on both points. The only issues I could see with going south of Plaquemine is having to deal with whatever historical groups would get up in arms due to the demlition necessary to go through Plaq, or having to swing around it and thus incur other charges of racism.
Either way it would take some strong leadership to get it done and I just don't see that particular ingredient anywhere.

It pisses me off every time I go to Texas and see these state highways that are built to interstate grade with full service roads and access every 2 miles or so to cross.

agree there is a good bit of historically protected properties by the old locks. plus the town has been doing a lot of renovations there making a park on the bayou by the locks. There is no way they are giving that up after all the money they are dumping into that area of town.
When the loop was being discussed our parish president was pushing for a bridge in south plaquemine. when it was denied, it was no bridge in our parish then no loop through our parish.

I'm still not getting your point.

Where was a bridge proposed? Around the White Castle ferry?

74 or cut through a lot of plant buffer land and tie in where corner view meets. Honestly grabbing hwy 30 once across the river would make the best plan.
Until a plant blew up and shut it down.

I think he is saying construction and environmental mitigation costs would be cost prohibitive.
You'd be better off plowing through some neighborhoods in p-ville to get a northern bypass.

If I remember correctly somewhere before White Castle was one of the proposed sights for it.

between plaquemine and geimar is a must

Protected wetlands.

All that plant traffic not having to go through BR to get home would work wonders for traffic in the area. i would say with or without a loop a bridge is still needed.

this summer, repave the streets in the northgate area
won't happen cause it makes too much sense to do it in the summer. they'll wait till September- just as the fall semester begins. That way the can have the biggest impact at inconveniencing the most people.
