re: Wednesday Night Wrestling Wars Thread : The War Begins - AEW Dynamite Debut Edition

So I finished watching Dynamite this morning. I have some kudos the announce team is extremely legit, as I expected. Like I said Vince made missteps with JR and Schiavone over the years and Tony Khan basically hit a hanging fastball out of the park on those two. Also, production was way better than any AEW PPV has been so far....TNT made a helluva difference. I wonder if TNT will help them with the PPVs going forward because the PPV production needs to be better than TV not worse.
Now for the bad.....all the content basically felt like a WCW wrasslin show. From the 1st match to the last. For instance Cody v Guevara felt like a Scott Hall v Konan opener from 1998. Same for Page v Pac....felt like a freaking Benoit v Disco Inferno match to lead into hour 2 of Nitro. None of this would be bad if they gave me a reason to care about these matches....but like WCW they did not. Commentary did the best they could to help them have meaning but they need a bone. They can and should improve on this. The ending felt like an NWO angle from 1997. I'm hoping they start to differentiate themselves.
Give me something on Page and Pac....these are two great performers that I want to care about but jeez give me a good reason for them to fight. Honestly I could see myself being more interested in Page v Pac or Page v MJF than Jericho and Cody.

This is how I feel. AEW really needs to work on the storylines. I know their main emphasis is the "sports like feel" centered around in ring workrate, but if there are no good storylines behind the matches then why should I care about them? The matches have no meaning.

the video package prior to the Cody/Sammy match I thought did a good job setting the story for the match and why it was important for Cody to win

trust me, if Chris Benoit was wrestling last night.. it'd feel a lot different than Page vs Pac

If you really want me to buy into the fact that Cody is going to take himself out of the title match if he loses....make that happen...that would automatically justify your "real sport" thing....alas it didn't happen.
Then we could have built a real story between Cody and Guevara....and probably have gotten Guevara over in the process. No way he gets over in Jericho's stable....he'll be like freaking Vincent
ETA I hope I'm wrong on this and I hope AEW gets their act together and becomes a real player...and trust me I'll watch again next week....but I honestly expected a little more out of the first show...maybe my expectations were way out of line IDK.
ETA2 Sammy Guevara....lose the damn panda bear gimmick...it's going to cause you problems on several fronts down the line.

that should have had a question mark at the end

Cody didn't exactly dominate Sammy... in fact... Sammy ended up looking really good in the match
and the finish with the roll up actually protected Sammy just as much as the win protected Cody
plus Sammy did stand over Cody at the end of the main event segment

BUT BUT BUT wins and loses matter....hell my win loss record is shown on right to the right of my name when I walk to the ring...so it matters.

That's not how the video portrayed it....the win for Cody meant everything. So Cody rolling up Sammy gets the same result for him that a squash would have. Basically the same result for Sammy as well...another mark in the L column by his name.
Honestly this is me shitting on the W/L record by their names when they walk to the ring not on Guevara or that match (it was ok to good). I don't necessarily disagree with anything you said....BUT if AEW is going to present pro wrasslin...then embrace it...don't give me this "real sport" shite. Hell in MJF's promo/interview after the show he said he was the only "real athlete" on the roster...so he shits on it too
