Agree there. Plus, as you say he has a base to work off of being from that area. It was very memorable to me though that his family wasn't talking the same way.

Tangipahoa parish so just barely. He wasn't from a part of Louisiana known for authentic Cajun cooking. He was a mustard greens and cornbread guy.

He was entertaining and colorful and I thought he gave people a positive impression of Louisiana.

I knew his nephew. He was a really sweet nice guy. Justin wasn't a real Cajun but he was a good Ambassador for Louisiana. He had a pretty good run as a stand up comedian using his Cajun schtick back in the 70s and 80s.

RIP Edward and Justin.

I used to hate when he would measure a tablespoon of salt, or any seasoning, by pouring it into his hand. Like it was some kind of magic trick.

I first heard of Justin as a comedian. I own several of his albums from the 60's. He was a funny guy and a great story teller. His persona was never perceived to be "fake", except for those coon asses from SW La. He was a good cook, not a chef, he was from La., not a coon arse and his cooking shows were very popular. I love me some JW and still use his greeting when entering a room: "How Y'all Are"...…..

Pretty sure he was originally from Tangipahoa Parish around Amite. Someone in here from that area can verify that, I gar-ron-tee. :rimshot:

That’s Amite and south, but you’re absolutely right about that half of the parish.

He was buried next to the Popeyes in Port Vincent.

Popeyes is more Cajun.

Growing up, I seem to recall him having a home in Denham. Only people outside of LA think all Louisiana people are Cajun. Funny thing is that most aren't Cajun at all. Doesn't mean he wasn't entertaining and bringing attention to the stories and traditions from S. LA.

He wasn't a Cajun. He even admitted it. He was a cook with bad acting skills, but some simple minds found him humorous.

Oh that’s just great! I guess next your gonna tell me Bill Dance isn’t really from Tennessee!
