They are not a hobby you can get involved in just whenever the hell you want. You have to feed them, clean them, spend time with them and if you ride then you have to get on them on a regular basis.
My brother had a horse and I have an aunt who has horses (where my brother kept his). It's not infatuation, its responsibility.

My father used to run the Tom Sawyer whitewashing the fence mind game on me to get me to exercise the horses. He had me begging to do it just like cutting the grass.
