During Katrina the mob wouldn’t engage uniformed armed groups. If you saw the mob and tactically moved to engage them, they always ran. Sniper overwatch would pop one here and there but they always ran.

This is a bit extreme. I have lived over a week without power after hurricanes. It's rough but people tend to reach out and help, not turn into murderous mobs. Society will carry on.
This is a situation where an end is in sight and society will no doubt be restored and legal consequences of your actions are still on the table. In an actual societal breakdown where government services and LEO may not even be intact or they are too busy taking care of their families a lot of people would be doing very bad things. The first few days probably wouldn’t be too bad except for certain elements of society but a couple weeks and all hell would break loose.

A person with 100 lbs of rice and 100 lbs of dried beans and a bunch of multivitamins would be set for quite a while. More people would die of disease and starvation than gunfire. However an AR 15 and .22 scoped rifle which a good amount of ammo is essential.

All those empty old Christmas Cookie tins lined with cardboard make great Faraday Cages. Put your old electronics in them to store.

Die because I'm in Louisiana and its all heat and polluted water.
If we don't blow up the causeway or at least block it off until everyone on the southshore uses up their gas then we are toast.
Oh wait, just a few weeks? Pack up the camper and head north so the heat isnt as miserable. Rural Arkansas is within distance and i know nice areas and people there.

I also think a lot of folks who say they or their parents have a place out in the woods, and they'll just go there. That may work, but that could also be drastically lessening the chances of survival. You're now isolating yourself, and there's no reason to think you're the only one in the world who knows about this spot. So there's probably quite a few people with the same exact plan as you to take shelter in that same camp, and they may have a group that outnumbers your group by a good bit so the "i'll just shoot them" route we always hear isn't going to work.
Lone wolf isn’t a good idea but you definitely don’t want to be in an urban area. The sanitation issue would be enough to kill a lot of people by itself. Disease would run rampant. Not to mention what the criminal element that is already wreaking havoc on places like NOLA will do when legal consequences are completely off the table. A small “community” of a few dozen people in a more rural area around a water source would have the best chance by far.

There will be armed roadblocks everywhere, official and unofficial. If you travel by road, you will get shot. You get shot, it will get infected and you will die.

The state alone is a Petri dish for disease and not the least bit conducive to being off the grid and self sufficient. I cannot think of a worse place to try and cure and store food. That’s just for starters.

Mosquitoes will kill more people than bullets.

Who supplies these roadblocks with no grid? Do they just rob passersby eat their food then wait for someone else to rob? Do they have some baw hanging out in a tree as overwatch? Do they also block off the many many many back roads in this country?
And yeah disease would suck. How many do you think would immediately die from drinking contaminated water? Probably a shitload.
Ideally I'd be in Maine or something where you have everything you need, wildlife, fresh reasonably clean water, a strong fishing and boating industry, and winters brutal enough to keep people from roving around and can store food easily.
I don't think 2022 Louisiana is a good place to be for any SHTF scenario. But in such a scenario you either leave immediately if you can or hang tight as long as you can.

or are yall still pretending vehicles and motors and electric devices wouldnt work?
Enough would be stranded on the road to where it’s not a guarantee that you can just drive anywhere you want. You say “only” 15-20% of vehicles would be taken out. Next time you drive out of town imagine 1 in every 5 of those hundreds or even thousands of vehicles you’re around broken down in the middle of the road.

Being stranded far from home is a bad scenario. I keep supplies in my vehicles because I've had to hoof it before when I was younger, but no planning will prepare you for it.

Not to mention every plane in flight would fall out the sky. Every person in an elevator is stuck. Many of the cars in motion would crash. Fires will have to burn themselves out. Anyone injured after the second week will get no medicine. Everyone who needs medicine to survive such a insulin, will be dead within three weeks.

Within three months 80-90% mortality is what is predicted.

Everyone should read/listen to the book the OP listed. It will change your life. You will be mad that no one told you this before now. They obviously think people can’t handle the truth.

Exactly. lsu777’s car might still work but there will be no open road available to drive it any meaningful distance. Especially when many of the other 80% of vehicles not affected are trying to do the same thing as him and they run out of gas or wreck making it even more of a gridlock.

An old Honda XR400 with a kickstart and no computer chip would be frickin awesome. The problem is the government/police will try to seize everything that moves for themselves.
Martial Law will be in place as will public executions for whatever they want.

We're aware, it's a message board proposing an interesting doomsday type scenario. That's it, no reason to read much more into it, just take the OP for what it is.
This.. idk why these two guys are so bound and determined to ruin the fun discussions throughout this thread
