That is absolutely insane. I can see why you would hate this town just on that fact alone. I would hate it too if I had to shell out that kind of money every year to come here out of compulsion or family obligation. Proximity to my family is high on the list of downsides about this town

I grew up here too. A lot has changed for the worst, but a lot has changed for the better too. It's a mixed bag. Sure, the neighborhood around Redemptorist is now a war zone and Cortana resembles a Soviet failed state, but Downtown is now nice and safe with a solid strip of bars and restaurants. Some neighborhoods I remember growing up being safe are now unsafe, and some I remember being unsafe are now trendy. That is the nature of cities. They change over time.
When I think back about all of the abandoned buildings everywhere back in the 90's and early 2000's and now look at all of the new construction going up all over, it's pretty exciting. If it weren't for the flood and the idiot regime in city hall, I'd actually be pretty bullish about this town's immediate future. I have a lot of fun now in this town, and I've been other places. It's not like I don't know any better, but I can still appreciate what I've got here.

Well, to "fly there", it requires spending 2 hours plus driving to an airport and going through security to get onto a flight and then the actual flight time, then renting a hotel room in the city, then repeating the process to go back.
Being an hour and a half away means you can drive in for the day and drive back and sleep in your own bed. That is a significant upgrade in terms of both convenience and cost savings. This is a sham argument and you know it.

I enjoy living downtown. I feel pretty insulated from all the typical BR problems.
Being able to walk to 3rd street and Mathernes is nice.
I still havent figured out all thats going on down here. Museums , river center events, open air events, theres a lot to do

I'd recommend joining the Happy's Running Club if you haven't already. It's a great way to network with other post-college grads and find out about what's going on.
I would highly recommend hitting up the Red Stick Roux Rally next Saturday. Super under-rated event downtown.
If you're into art, follow Mid City Rising on facebook. Their events are kinda cool every month, and they'll introduce you to a lot of other great events happening every weekend.
If you're into beer, yoga at Tin Roof on Wednesdays is another good activity to try. There's always a solid girl:guy ratio and it's very laid back. Tin Roof also hosts bands sometimes on Sundays.
If you're into original music, Spanish Moon should be your bar of choice. If you hang out there long enough, you're likely to meet most every young musician in town since they all hang out there when they're not playing. Mid City Ballroom, Atomic Pop Shop, 524 Studios, etc. are all also good spots for music and worth social media follows to find out about events.
If there's one really simple thing Baton Rouge could improve on, it would be publicizing events. The Tiger Weekly used to be perfect for that as it would give you everything. The Dig watered it down to just highlights every week, and then became even more useless when it went to a "once-a-month" format.
There's a lot of stuff to do, but it's not always easy to find.
