Gardere
One LSU prof I knew owned a duplex in Gardere that he rented out to unsuspecting foreign grad students that he supervised Even when they wised up, they had to stick it out or risk retaliation in their studies.

I didn't know any better. I just did my own thing. I grew up one street over from Vine St Vatos in Orange, CA. Shootings were an often occurrence. My wife and I were visiting my mom and I told her we were going to drive down Vine St so she can experience it. As we drove past dirt yards with chickens 2 blacked out SUVs pulled up to a house in front of us and SWAT got out to execute a raid. We got out of there pretty quick hahaha.

I didn't live in the hood but right next to it. In certain parts of the country you have extremely affluent neighborhoods right next to some very dangerous ones. I spent a considerable amount of time in the actual hood doing hood rat stuff with my friends.

It's like everyone here watched The Wire and walked away believing they saw a documentary. Kudos to David Simon.

I lived on Starboard Fall 1984. Some dude was harassing the wife of a resident of the building next to mine and the wife's brother took the guy out. Rifle was on the ground by my mailbox.
Lived on Jasper in 91-92. Never had any problems, but always carried a gun to and from my car. Lived on Skysail for a few years after and had someone get murdered a couple doors down, again, always stayed strapped and had a Rottweiler by that time.
My brother had a one bedroom upstairs apartment near us (Maybe on Starboard) and had a bullet come through his floor from downstairs.
Fun times being poor at LSU.
