I once rented a Chrysler 300. Best driving vehicle I've ever experienced. I request the 300 now when I rent cars, but they apparently are rare.

I'm intrigued by a Ford escape or edge with the Ecoboost engine.
Kinda hard to beat an SUV that'll get 30+ mpg on the highway.

Where all you planning to go on road trip? Different vehicles for different areas of terrain.

4Runner
Reliable, has plenty of cargo space, can go pretty much anywhere, and can be gotten for under 40k.

The best in my experience was a 36’ RV with a fridge, a toilet, and plenty of room to walk around or stretch out.

I have one for a company car. More like 26mpg Highway and not enough cargo space. Good upright seating position, head room and no blind spots but would not buy.

Used camper van, maybe a Sprinter.

Yup
The Benz Sprinter is undisputed for road trips.

Lexus ES 350. Seats are also rather wide so your fatass will be just fine.

If alone.
If with others..

Cadillac XTS
Closest thing to the Caddy's of old with the nice smooth highway ride and big enough for fat asses.
Otherwise, a Suburban.

Grand Cherokee.. cuz it’s a Jeep, but unlike ‘real’ Jeeps, it has a lot of creature comforts like rear view camera and remote start.. and it’s big enough so that you can sleep in it, unlike a Wrangler.
