I agree, I would happily pay it also. After looking at revenue I just don't see any significant increases imminent though.

EBRPSS spends $11k per student per year, which is high....especially given the results. Its time they become accountable for themselves.

The anti-St George crowd is fooling themselves if they think taxes aren't going up in BR. Taxes rarely go down. They may not get any sales tax increases but they sure as hell can get property taxes passed since there are many non-property owners in the city limits (look at how great the CATS tax worked out).

I live in the unincorporated area and am for St. George.

Something has to change and the BR Metro council has proven they are incapable of managing a school district. Give someone else a shot. Their behavior and preposterous statements regarding the issue alone prove how the Metro council is unfit to govern.

(ETA: EBR school board are the clowns that manage the current school system.

BR Metro council are the clowns that govern the city.

They both prove by their actions why the ST. George movement was started.)

Will privatization improve services? Of course not but they will be cheaper for the same lackluster results.

The beauty of the St. George initiative is only the people in the area get to vote on it. Let the people vote how they wish to be governed.

I'm against splitting up our city. Baton Rouge is on the rise. Wait things out and put efforts into either fixing the EBR schools, or keep fighting for your own.

I'm sure they'll be pleased to know they are incapable of managing a school system they have no authority to manage.

You get to vote to form your own city. The school district still requires approval from the state AND requires a 50% +1 margin within the boundaries of the existing district.

Is highland creek still outside. I am near te corner of highland and staring. The last map I saw had my house still outside st George. But had gardere in it.

Doesn't really matter. I only use the house for lsu games and a place to store my boat.

The city is the first step.

The school district won't be far behind.

I don't think you understand. But that was already clear since you think the metro council has authority of the school system.

No, I don't think you understand.

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it can't or won't happen.

I think the history of the incorporation of the cities of Central, Baker, and Zachary present a compelling argument that it will eventually.

I guess your whole reason to post was to correct my mistaken statement about the Metro Council?

I guess I have been educated?

Once incorporated, the school district formation should be easy. A few ticked off people in metro BR won't stop the state from voting to give us control of our own schools. Particularly given the precedent of improvements set by Central and Zachary.

The City of St George proposition has about as many uniformed people for and against/inside and outside of the committees as Obamacare.

It seems as if almost everybody in this thread is simply spouting off speculation and conjecture to support their views, and nobody actually has a factual basis to support their position.

The truth of the matter is a change is needed, and the incompetence of the parties involved that brought us to this point is disappointing.

Again. The Parish must approve the district as well.

It must pass with a majority in the state and in the parish.

And again, central and Zachary have our backs. A few pissed people in metro br still will have little effect.

In 2010, the NATIONAL average cost of educating a k-12 student was $10,600. EBRPSS spent $12,183 and achieved terrible results.

Overwhelmingly THIS.

Sadly this is now the norm in our social media culture. Everyone consumes only the information that is catered to their viewpoint and takes it as fact and spreads it as such.

I thought the last round in 2012 with Bodi White and the state Congress resulted in the formation of the district just not the funding mechanism. I remember hearing in the news then that it was intentionally done that way because they were fairly certain the bill to provide the funding would never make it through.

I think this is the history of the bill which passed and is now law?
