It’s currently 57 largest metro area. It used to be much higher. It’s below Tulsa and Birmingham and a slew of others. Politics, demographics, and hurricanes are to blame, in that order.

Why do you have to always attack someone on here when they criticize NOLA? I wasn’t even addressing you in my comment. Sounds like you have a lot of insecurities. But to be fair, I’d be pretty insecure too if I had to live in a third-world dump like Louisiana.

City is a B market. Can’t complain too much. Sure, miss some stuff but get some good stuff too. Smaller local acts help fill he gap for me

Would be nice to have Voodoo back to help fill the rock void

Less options on the I-10 corridor between Texas and Georgia. Easier to jump up to I-20.

New Orleans is a bit out of the way for ground travel. Bus drivers get pushed into overdrive OT, so the distance isn’t worth it.

Edit: there’s also too much to do for tourists in the city, so live entertainment isn’t the easiest to fill except for massive draws.

because it’s never a good time for sn outdoor concert in New Orleans

Is the climate in New Orleans that much different than Houston? Because the Woodlands Pavilion has concerts year round.

I think someone had a good point about mid-tier venues, and that's an issue in a lot of places these days. Where they do go up, they're in suburbs pretty far from city centers.

Still not sure what the OP is talking about, though. It still seems like a lot of touring acts hit New Orleans and Austin, while sometimes skipping over Houston. Which pisses me off at least once or twice a year.

Some people just WANT New Orleans to fail so they can tell themselves "SEE! Moving to vanilla Mandeville was totally the right decision!"

No one in Mandeville gives a shite about where you choose to live. People that justify living in that shithole city are the lamest of lame.

Bull. fricking. shite.

New Orleans is a hub of live music. In my 15 years of living here I have seen musical acts that range from worldwide stars to acts I personally love but have less than 100,000 listens on Spotify

Garth Brooks
Taylor Swift
Rolling Stones
The 1975 at Lakefront
The 1975 in the Dome in October
Passion Pit
Teagan and Sara
Geographer for $5
Third Eye Blind
Rufus Du Sol
frick I saw Above and Beyond at the Joy Theater with like 200 people max … these frickers sell out cricket stadiums in Australia
Dashboard confessional
Counting Crows
Lil Wayne

I mean I’m not even thinking that hard

VERY few cities of this size have this much live music of such variety of scope and genre

Get real

What a dumb thread As mentioned: Garth, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Drake, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Guns N Roses, Zach Bryan, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and I’m sure plenty others I can’t remember have recently played or have dates booked. Who else hasn’t come through that’s considered “major”?

Considering that OP's data was "seems like" I'm not shocked he didn't do his homework. Baw thought he could just post a "New Orleans is terrible" topic and get away with it

What are major tours now? All the biggest old bands are dying off. Elton John, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Eagles, and plenty more have played in New Orleans in the last 5 years.

Can New Orleans attract more major concerts? Arena's new director of booking thinks so
quote:

Arenas in large markets — New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Miami, etc. — are the A-level priority. Gaps in a tour's itinerary are filled with smaller, B-level markets.

New Orleans is generally considered a strong B-market. When acts are traveling between, say, Houston and Atlanta, New Orleans and Memphis are possible stops.

It’s often a “jump ball” on whether a tour goes to the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans or the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Holmes said.

I was replying to YA Tittle; he made a statement that there weren't a lot of big acts on tour.

Silly thread. Like them or not and I certainly don't, Taylor Swift and Beyonce are two of the biggest tours going right now. Plenty of reasons to criticize New Orleans but this isn't one of them.
Unfortunately I'll be in town with my wife and in-laws for Depeche Mode next month
