Most conservatives are outnumbered, especially by younger workers who tend to lean more liberal. I am a conservative but have found nothing you mentioned to be in any violation of any company policy. The best course of action would have been for you to have ignored the conversation and went along your way like an adult. I get being aggravated at her viewpoint but she is entitled to it. Going to HR should be reserved, in my opinion, for something that has absolutely no other recourse but to get them involved. This was not such an incident. Grow thicker skin.

I would call them stupid too. Anyone that talks politics in the workplace in this political climate deserves whatever comes to them because they're fricking retarded.
With that said, I agree with the OP that his supervisor shouldn't have made those comments. However, his email to HR was some butthurt snowflake shite. He's turning it into the endless political debate where no one is going to change theyre mind no matter what. If he's going to reach out to HR it should be to stop political talk end the office. Hard stop, nothing more.

If the situation was reversed and he was complaining about an HR complaint made against him because a liberal woman didn’t like his rant about Hillary or AOC or whatever you’d make some sort of obligatory “she’s a bitch” remark and then go on and on about how he’s a dumbass for bring it up in the workplace.
