And they also explained that those passages came straight out of movies. Jon Ramsey was apparently a movie buff.

It's appears to be a complete cover up. Something happened, could be an accident.. inside that home.. and the family went to great lengths to protect another member.. Possibly the son killed her out of jealousy, out of being weird, or even accidental.. but they didn't want anyone to go to jail over it.

They staged the letter, and they staged the eventual weapons used against her.

Who would break into a house only to murder just one member.. yet still be calm enough to go find exactly where a pen and pad would be laying around.. and write a 2-3 page ransom letter even after killing.. At some point you would think they'd just want to get the heck out of there.. since the note was written from the home..

And everyone else is unharmed.. and no trace of that person.. Come on..

Everything points to the family no doubt and I also believe that but then you say well "who sexually assaulted her" and it's hard to believe the father or brother did that unless they used an object to do it. Also the DNA would have to be tampered with to not have any of the family's anywhere on that little girl. I know a lot of people contaminated the crime scene but you would still have at least a small amount found on her

Still can't fathom the DA not choosing to bring charges after the grand jury found cause

Maybe the DA is the one who killed her, in a sick child prostitution ring the parents were running? So they had to stage the "kidnapping" and cover it up to save themselves from jail time as well.

The "professional" investigators on these shows are making lots of suppositions, presenting conjecture as facts. There is not a shred of anything in that family's background that indicates any possibility they could have been involved in such a gruesome crime. The idea that the parents could have staged the crime scene is ludicrous. These types of crimes are always committed by psychologically twisted, not by stable mentally healthy people.

There were fingernail marks just above the mark that the garrote left. This proves she was still alive and trying to fight for her life while being strangled. This to me, disproves the fact that she was hit over the head, killed, and then it was covered up. What about the taser looking marks?

One interesting thing revealed last night was that Jon was out of sight for 1 1/2 hours early that morning and nobody could account for where he was.

When it was suggested that the house be searched the plan was to start at the top and work down to the basement. But Jon immediately ignores that and goes to the basement door. He announces the finding of a body before the light is even turned on in the room where her body was laying. He then picks her up and brings her upstairs and lays her in a high traffic area.

That 1 1/2 hour period where his whereabouts are unaccounted for are very suspicious. I think he had the body hidden elsewhere but for some reason decided it would be better if the body was found in the house. He had a lot of time to think about it in the 4-5 hours from the time the 911 call was made. Who knows what his thinking was on that.

I think the brother bashed her head with the flashlight and a cover up ensued. But why cover up? Why go through all that to cover for a 10 year old boy who would never have been put in prison for the crime? I think it had to do with protecting the image of the family and the boys future. They didn't want to be known as the family with the "crazy" murder kid and they wanted to protect him from being institutionalized for years. Basically just a coverup to avoid shame and embarrassment.

How many stun guns were available to private citizens in 1996? That would be a relatively quick list to go thru in Colorado for people that had purchased such a device

I mean the police didn't start getting them until 1994

It's seems pretty obvious the brother did it and then Mom and Dad covered it up. They lost one child and did not want to make it two. Tough situation.

Its hard to believe the parents would cover up the boy hitting her by strangling her.

Wasn't she conscious while being strangled too?

I was surprised at how messy and nasty their house was.

It was probably some bizarre attempt at making it look like the kidnapper was trying to behead her, as the note said they would. I mean, who would make such a weird device just to quickly strangle a 5 year old?

Remember she was probably killed the night before, and they had all night to stage the scene before calling 911 at 6am

The guy last night said she could have been alive but was brain dead from the blunt force trauma from the flashlight.

The police botched the investigation from the get-go. They didnt' even try to look at any other possibilities. There is a reason the police department had to settle a libel defamation lawsuit.

Look at the way police botched Elizabeth Smart's abduction.

The way she was strangled just seems way too sadistic for parents to do to a child if they were just trying to protect the brother.

Strangulation is pretty intense.

How does that even play out;

Oh shite, Burke fricked up jonbenet.
We have to cover it up.
What should we do?
Let's wrap a rope around her neck and make a garrote and turn it till her eyes pop out.
