I think the conclusion drawn from the bolded portion is where the rub exists. To wit: it's not that being black or another minority makes you prone to crime, but rather that being brought up in a certain socioeconomic bracket increases one's risk of criminal activity.

Agree, but we as a community as a whole need to not let this in a the very least bit allow ANYONE of any color or background use it as an excuse for themselves or for someone that may look like them, talk like them, be related to them, or happen to be from the same neighborhood.

I've been in, spent time, and even lived in some of the neighborhoods with some of the highest violent crime rates in the free world. I see how it is breed into these kids at a young age. When you see violence everyday you become immune to it and think it's normal. But it isn't normal and it isn't an excuse to get involved. If one poor (black) man can pick himself up and come up from there then it shows that they all have the ability. Let's quit using it as an excuse. It may take the guy from the affluent 8 steps to get on the top of the porch and the guy from the poor social situation 9 steps, but guess what, neither trip was easy and guess what else, the guy that took 9 steps is that much stronger for it.... No more excuses. Every opportunity is available. I absolutely HATE shitty cops and every one that has ever wrote a statement that is anything than 100% accurate needs to rot in hell, but all we can do is keep all fighting as a community unified to get that all rectified. The racist movements and chants need to completely stop.

But even if it is something that is genetic that makes blacks prone to be more violent, then we need to embrace it. I have no clue. I'm just saying there isn't any reason to take anything off the table and we all need to realize we are ALL in this together. It's a societal problem not a black community problem.

Also I hear elders and black community leaders constantly speaking out on the black youth killing each other. But for some reason every one on the OT just acts like it's something that doesn't exist because the news always shows the hands up riots and Al and Jesse. Well that's because it gets clicks and views. Every single day in every single black church in America the violent african americans are being singled out and chastised for their violent ways... It's an epidemic and needs to be attacked from an all angle assault.

Extremely well said

My dad was one of those poor black kids. Grew up in the slums in Bryan, TX. Decided he didn't just want to work for the big state school the next town over in College Station as a janitor like his mother and uncles (who sharecropped for awhile)--he wanted to ATTEND. Busted his arse to make that a reality.

Wouldn't be where I am today without he and my mom doing the same.

I have more black friends than white because I realized I have been wronged in different ways way more by my white friends. None of my black friends have ever done me wrong. White people are a lot more dishonest with friends. A brother that you keep real with will never let you down. So is my experience in my part of the world.
