Alaskan Oil Spill

Does anybody know how long the fishing industry was down. Any info on the loss of income, etc, Do you know anybody that died or even got sick from eating Alaskan seafood

Valdiz effects on some species (a couple) are still down. If im not mistaken Halibut has never recovered/returned. However it should be noted that the situation for that spill is very different from this one.

The gulf is a much larger volume of water for one.

No one knows or can say for sure what the impact of this on going thing is going to be.

The impact of the GOM will be over in 6 months, once we start using the hay to clean up the mess.

That spill was also heavy oil.

FWIW- I had a prof in college who said that an oil spill in the GOM wouldn't have the long term effects that it did in Alasksa due to oil eating bacteria... He said that GOM has significantly larger amounts of oil eating bacteria due to warmer waters.
