Funny story about BP

I had this client call me the other day and told me that he had 1000' of boom at his shop in Jacksonville that he wanted to sell and wanted to know if I could get in touch with someone that could use it. Os I said of course. I got in touch with someone at BP and sent him all the info and we exchanged a few emails for a few days until finally last night he said that he was sending an inspector over there to take a look at it. So I called my client and told him to expect an inspector with BP to be calling him to let him know he was coming by to inspect the boom.
This morning I called my client and asked how it went. He said it went good. He asked the guy, "Soooo, you're a "boom inspector" for BP huh?" he said "yup". Client said, "sooo, what are you looking for"? He said< " I have no idea, this is the first time I have ever seen a piece of boom". My client asked him, "How long have you been a "boom inspector for BP?". He said, "for about 2 hours" "They just called me up and asked me to come by and take a look at what you had, take some pics and email them to him" He said , "I was unemployed up until about 2 hours ago"
This is the best part of the story.....
So I get this email from my BP guy this afternoon:
So I'm thinking about just shipping the boom to NOLA and calling them back saying that I have some more here in NOLA and see what they do.

Good Afternoon______
BP will not be able to issue you a purchase order for the 1000ft of 18” containment boom at your facility in Florida. According to QA/QC this equipment did not pass inspection. Thank you for your time and cooperation.

was the boom made of hair? I know a bunch of retards got together and thought they could use cut hair as booms.

No, this boom was the same shite they're already using down here.
I guarantee, they'll be calling for it again next week.

The technology they are using to see if the boon they want is up to code or not is similar to the tin eye search engine.
tin eye visual search
You take a picture, send it to a database, there's already standards approved, it compares it to the standards they want, and if it meets the determined criteria it is approved or if it doesn't meet the criteria it is denied.
Used extensively in the UK and EU tech industries so there's no need for multiple language translations (example, feet vs. meters, gallons vs. liters).
There's an iphone app called snaptell which is similar. You take a picture of a cd cover or dvd cover or book cover, it uploads the pics to a database and sends back info on who the author is, reviews, and where you can buy it online.
A lot cheaper too bc the people who are approving the booms or whatever supplies they need can authorize from anywhere in the world that has internet or satellite connections. No need to ship personnel out.
Pretty cool.

Here's a link to show how tin eye works.
I googled LSU championship and found this pic. Load the pic into tin eye and it tells you all the other places on the web this image is.
Instead of searching for images with words, you're searching for images using images.

I see what you are saying, but I'd had already sent them numerous pics.
I assume they just wanted a third party to confirm that there was actually boom there, then they determined that it wasnt what they were looking for. Who knows

That's actually a pretty efficient way to run things. I bet it costs a lot less to hire a contractor for ~4 hours instead of having to fly or drive one of you employees, who are probably really busy right now, over for 1-2 days.

I'm still waiting for an app that will allow me to take a picture of a plant/tree species and identify it for me. That would be nice.
