What is it made of,and is it poisonous?

It can't be any worse than the oil and the dispersant!

It's non-toxic, water-based mud. That's about as good as mud gets but you'd still get in trouble if you spilled a bunch of it into the Gulf under normal circumstances. Still better than oil for sure.

Sorry I guess I thread jacked a little.
i dont know if the mud is toxic. I thought I read on this board where one poster said that under normal conditions it was not legal to use this mud but now they are hoping it will work.

it is illegal to discharge synthetic oil-based mud into the gulf of mexico.
however, this is not synthetic based mud, this is water based mud - which can be dischraged into the gulf at specific dischrage points ont he rig and during specific operations, provided it passes a battery of environmental tests.

The mud itself isn't bad but once it is mixed with the down hole hydrocarbons it isn't good. I used to survey oilfield waste barges coming into U.S. Liquids in Grand Bois (the old cambel wells site). Once it comes back out the hole lets just say you wouldn't want it in your yard.
