Some estimates are that 140,000,000 gallons of oil were spilled into the Gulf in 1979 when a rig blewout in the Bay of Campeche off the coast of Mexico. While the spill caused alot of problems for the Texas gulf coast it didn't destroy the seafood and tourist industry. Hopefully the Gulf is much more resiliant than people are assuming.

This all comes down to when its capped. If it gets worse and/or goes uncapped for 3 more months La's seafood industry and probably marshes will be destroyed IMO.

you realize that the oil traveled for hundreds of miles before reaching the Texas coast, right? That's a lot of dilution.
