People call Ponchartrain and Bourgne lakes even though they are both seas by definition.
Lake Pontchartrain is actually a bay by definition.

I thought Maurepas was really a bay, actually there is a specific term for what Lake Ponchartrain is.
An Estuary.
An Estuary.

"Ocean" is correct. It means the continuous body of water that covers most of the earth. The word can also singularly apply to one of its principal bodies.

I'm from South Baton Rouge and have spent forty six summers on the 30A "Gulf" beach. It's a gulf not an ocean. I can take being called a tard. It fricking hurts being corrected by Rex.

The gulf is part of the Atlantic ocean. I knew this by the time I was 8 years old.

A lot of geography terms are very ambiguous... is the Antarctic ocean really independent of other oceans? Is the Bay of Campeche likewise independent of the Gulf of Mexico? Is Greenland the largest island... or is it Australia... or is it Eurasia? It's pointless to argue about this shite because it's all arbitrary to begin with.
