Reb I appreciate the opinion. Depending upon other hunting options he may get a pass. If I do shoot him I’ll get a pic of the jaw bones. If he’s shot it will be opening weekend. Tend to see deer move around after opening weekend.

Not here to argue.

Nothing I’d like to see more than for you harvest this deer and post a full length pic of the intact deer with nobody touching it on a Dept of Ag certified digital scale (not a truck stop) that shows the weight.

Post it here and be sure to tag me. I’m not a gambler; but, I’ll happily eat my words and write a $100 check to a non-profit of your choosing if it breaks 200lbs. To make it fun, I’ll even give you a 15% margin of error and pay up if it breaks 170lbs.

Hell Wiltz I might have to know. Let me think of the charity and I’ll get back too you after he’s down!

Just kidding, but seriously I’m sure there is one at the UGA AG center in Griffin. Might have you Artie the check to them. He’s being well feed and will continue to gorge!

I would guess 2-1/2. There is no sway to belly or back that is typical of older deer. if you want to take him, but don't just to "cull" him out of the gene pool. That has been proven to old outdated wives tale.

That’s why I asked. Buddies saying he’s a very old deer seem to be wrong. The main reason I thought he was older was his brisket in front. He may keep walking, unless my kid wants to shoot him. He’s never taken a decent buck. Or if I want Wiltz to pay $100 to my favorite charity. He’s going to keep putting on weight.

When you here “cull” that doesn’t necessarily mean to cull for noticeable genetic improvements. It can be done in pens, but that doesn’t translate to free roaming deer because of unknown does. Culling can also stand for removing a poor performing buck so that another buck that is performing better can take his place in the ecosystem. If your property holds 70 bucks, and 7 are bucks are below the average you can remove them and hopefully bucks that are average/above average will take their place.

Those are the bucks you, kids and wives can kill that don’t have the patience to sit for months holding out for those 4-5 deer to show up, especially in bow range.

That’s what I mean by “culling” anyway.

That’s my interpretation as well. My son has never shot a decent buck. I’m sure he will take him or I’ll let take Wiltz’s donation. He just going to keep growing.

We have far superior genetics than this deer he just looked older here is another pic. And one of the genetics I was talking about.

The water authority area. It’s been good to us for a few years. I killed a 120, nice deer 3 1/2. Buddy killed a 150 last year. No ducks of course, but hear a ton. Head to Oklahoma annually for that bit of fun. Lots of deer and it’s hunted pretty regularly considering it’s in the city limits.

Thats the place...back in the 80's it was, as far as I know, open to duck hunting....and fishing...we never got arrested, but I don't recall ever seeing the man either. Lot of strange shite took place in that area back in the day...no telling what you might see arriving at 4 am on a Tuesday!!! There were some great big ole bluegill and shellcracker in the river back then though...and one of the few places in metro atlanta where shooting mallards wasn't unheard of...it was loaded with big deer back then also and it was hunted pretty heavily...I think folks hunted with rifles then but I don't know....

I just looked on googlemaps and it looks like the swamp is drained...when I was a kid and a young man it started at the airport and went all the way down to the water treatment plant....of course water levels would vary but some years that whole drainage had a foot of water or more on it! There were also BUNCHES of beaver damns...it looks they are non existent now. I imagine they are taking a pile more water out and putting less back but the area still looks like a patch of near wilderness in a very congested area.

That’s awesome to hear about what it was like back then dawg. It hasn’t changed a bunch of folks but it, because really there isn’t much else anyone can get after. It’s special to see all the old wooden stands folks built, and I guarantee they used guns back then. Still for this area in Clayton it doesn’t get much better.
