I used to fish there a good bit last year. Walk up river and throw crawfish cranks. Lots of small bass and bream. Be careful the sand is soft and you can sink easily.

There is a campground near the hammond airport that has a beach on tangiphoa. Good sized. Family atmosphere and you'd likely have it to yourself. I'd recommend you drive over there instead of trying to duck into private land. I float fish the amite- only because I have lots of private access.
