I've had a cheapo Academy tailgate tent for 5 or 6 years, it's finally getting ragged enough to be replaced. Are there any decent 10x10s out there that pack up tighter?

I mainly use it when camping to have the cooking area covered.

Does it need to be freestanding? I have this one from Kelty and really like that you can set it up in damn near any configuration-- can use trees, poles, your truck, or combination ( I usually clip one side to my truck/camper and have two poles if no trees). Super useful to angle one side down like a lean-to in bad weather. Doesn't get much lighter or easier to pack.

Would prefer it to be but it's not a deal breaker. This might be what I go to. Trying to reduce how much bull shite ends up packed into my truck. Thanks

Exactly-- the eternal struggle.

Probably pretty well if the sizing is right. I've also used these, and they have different size options.

You looked at just using a truck awning? Not sure if you have a rack system you can attach it to (probably not or you'd already have gone this route). The 270 degree freestandings are pretty sweet.

Haven't looked at them much. I normally camp for a few days and use my truck to get around the WMA. I do have a rack and a camper shell that it'd attach to.
