I am buying and old EPIRB from a guy on Facebook marketplace. It’s clearly out of date and needs a new battery. I remember there was so issue with getting battery replacements. This one expired in 2013 or something.

Does anyone know anything about this ?

I think an EPIRB is something I’d buy new.

What you are doing is like buying used, out of date smoke detectors for your house. Do you really trust your and your family’s life to a used, out of date safety device?

What brand is it? Call them and see if the battery can be replaced or not.

I’d let him buy his own used EPIRB. Buy him some quality, long-lasting life vests and a self inflating life-raft, instead. He and his will need them when his second-hand, expired EPIRB doesn’t work.
