I'm assuming Lillian may mean you're not a dude? Or maybe you are? We need more info about you and your body type and what you're willing to sacrifice in comfort for a larger gun with more capacity.
I would recommend something single stack as a first concealed carry gun. You'll be more likely to have it on you rather than leave it home because it's uncomfortable.
I like the M&P Shield, Springfield XDs, Walther PPS, and Kahr CM9. But then again, you won't know for sure until you hold them. I'd suggest you go to a store and see which one feels best. As long as you stick with good name brands (I would personally avoid stuff like Diamondback) then you should get a good handgun.
Here's my YouTube channel with some good info you may like. If you have any other questions there are plenty of good people here to help you.

I guess I'm not as hard of a rocker as I thought...
Been playing music in a band for 10 years and now I look like a dumbass...

I already own a tuned 4in 1911 but what are my options in 45acp?
Posted on 2/2/14 at 8:35 pm to ninthward
It depends on the size really but I would say
Springfield XDs
Kahr CM45
or another commander 1911

I love revolvers yet I do not own any, however in Nevada when I got my CCW you had to check out with either an auto or revolver, I did not with a revolver and did not take the extra minutes to check out with the revolver,so dumb. As a result I cannot carry a revolver concealed legally in NV.
that said I am buying a small 357 for the female side of the bed lol she has a want for some reason so I will store a little snub over there

I bought my old man a 9mm Shield for Christmas. I love it. I have a 3.8" XDM .45, 1911 R1, Browning Hi Power 9mm, and a G23 and I would carry the Shield over all of those. I'd like to get one for myself when I get some more spare change. Also very little recoil for how light and small it is. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the 9mm and the .40 are the same size.

Dimensionally identical. Yep. All M&P pistols were first built as 40 cals. The M&P45s are the ones that are slightly wider.

Already posted but this is mine.
Beretta Nano
It fits in the pocket of any pair of pants I own. Shoots real well for short barrel and smaller grip.

I love my Nano, too!
I think it's a really underrated firearm.
