If so this is the truck that came in smoking and had multiple cylinders showing low compression so we got approval for 20 hours tear down, removing cab and heads etc.. Turbos where bad no doubt causing smoke but
Cylinders where washed out no crosshatchs once so ever! So we gave a estimate to rebuild motor customer declined and said he didn't understand why he had to pay 2000 once we tear down our money is guaranteed that's why we get a teardown approval so if u don't wanna fix we still get paid makes since right!

Can't say that I disagree with the way you handled this. Changed my perspective for the better.

Thanks things no doubt got out of hand on this one but it's because rarely do I tear one down that I don't actually fix, that being said we charged a extra 10 hours from what i remember and put the truck back together with all old gaskets and fuel lines which the customer was aware that was a big no no but we did it anyway to make him happy and surprisingly the truck started and ran! From there it was a huge argument of why I was charging the money since I didn't fix it when in turn we put many man hours into it but was advised not to repair it and he was gonna get a cheaper fix else where!

Seems like someone else had a similar experience to mine. In my case, I asked you to check out why it was smoking and you said you'd hook it up to the computer and check compression. The turbos on my truck were actually still good because I used them for another 30k until I sold it.
In my case, you took the cab off and disassembled the engine before calling me with the compression test results or giving me a quote to do so. I showed up and you said I owed you $2500 and then gave me a quote for $17.5k to replace the engine. We got into an argument about yall taking my truck apart and then you tried fighting me in front of a couple of customers. After that, you said you would just "repo" my truck and I wouldn't ever see it again. Then, you told me I would only have to pay you $2k if I paid cash. That all happened within a 5 minute conversation.
That is the epitome of shady business practice if you ask me. It is not just me either. There are a few other guys on this board that have a problem with the way you conduct business, and I'm sure there are plenty more around that feel the same way. There are other diesel shops around that are better, faster, and much cheaper than you, and people also won't have to deal with your attitude either.
If you are thinking about me, then I guess I am the guy you tried fighting in front of a bunch of other people at your own business. FWIW, I haven't ever had that happen in my 30 years on this earth besides in your shop
Eta: Actually now that I think about it, you tried charging me something like 16% tax also. I even remember going home and looking up the AP tax rates

That was the one I was thinking of. I talked to the guy a while back, and always see him driving around New Orleans

I have never disassembled a customer truck without a approval because at that point u wouldn't be liable for the tear down but u did at some point aprove this and yes u are the only customer I have ever had this issue with! But I'm not gonna argue with u cause u are a know it all!
Posted on 9/28/14 at 12:15 am to Coysdiesel
Why would I charge u 16% tax the tax rate is 8.5%

I was wondering the same thing
I never had any problems with either TNT or Tri-care, and in fact, they were extremely easy to work with and very professional. I haven't ever had that problem with any business anywhere, just your shop
Based on that, I can recommend that people do not go to your shop, and do go to places that I have had much better experiences with. I can put the information out there, and they can do what they want with it. If you noticed in this thread, I'm not the only one who had had a problem, but mine was the most serious.....serious enough for you to remember trying to fight me in your own business, and then come on the internet and say that you've only tried to fight two customers at your shop. Ask yourself if that is normal
*You is also spelled "you", not u

U never gonna be at ease with what happen that day and that's fine but I as u can see I never forgot about it either, don't think I enjoyed acting that way but when someone tells u they aren't paying
It makes things unsettling.so don't leave pissed off tonight just leave knowing I do care about what happen that day and wish things would have played out differently

He's a good guy and seems to do really good work. They have been a customer of mine for about 4 years now and would def the place Id go if I lived in that area. I live in BR and have been taking my truck to TriCare since Ive had it.

That's all good and well, but that doesn't change the fact that it happened, that you took my shite apart without my approval (I guess assuming that I was just gonna fork over the money), and that you wanted $17.5k to install a new engine. It seems that you have continued to have problems from what I read and hear. When someone asks for the best place, I am going to give my opinion because I have dealt with all of yall.
There are other shops around BR, and people wouldn't have to worry about all of that nonsense. It is the nature of competition
If you think about it, if I would've okay'd the $2500 or if I would've signed a work order, I wouldn't have any basis to be angry. Neither of those happened

Like I said I never tear down trucks without approval so u did at some point give someone a approval to tear the truck down and that's why the fight started but it's my word against yours, from what I remember u just didn't realize what 20 hours was and was in shock at the price!
Posted on 9/28/14 at 12:43 am to Coysdiesel
If I didn't have a verbal approval from you to my service writer, the truck would have never be torn down!
Posted on 9/28/14 at 1:09 am to Coysdiesel
I only spoke to you when I dropped it off. The first time I talked to anyone inside was when I came back and was told the price. You told me you'd hook it up to the computer and call me after that. If I would've been told it was $2500 before hand, do you think I would have been angry?
If it bothered you so much, why in the three years between then and when this thread was started did you not call and talk to me about it? Seems like it didn't matter until you found out someone was telling other people what you did

Coy
I don't have a dog in this fight but isn't it possible there was a miscommunication by someone at your shop about the authorization to take the truck down?
It seems that would be likely in the described scenario.

I have no idea of the quality of work there, but have just heard things from other people, so I cannot comment on that. He might be the best mechanic in the state, who knows? I just find it hard to believe that any sane person would want to deal with a business owner who runs his business like that.
Then, to come on here and say he sorry and wished it never happened is BS. I don't need an apology, and if I wanted one it sure as frick wouldn't be needed three years later when he comes on TD after a football game and sees a thread about his shop. He can be as angry as he wants, IDGAF. I am still going to recommend people go to Tri-care because of their professionalism.
He was the only person I spoke with until the time I came back and was told I owed them $2500. I never signed any work order, and in fact, wasn't ever informed of the scope of what they were going to do. All he said was that they were going to hook it up to the computer for a compression test and call me.
It is what it is man
