I used to think this way.
But you aren't oiling the pot to stop it from rusting.
You're using oil to fill the pores of the metal and then burning the shite out of it so it turns into carbon.
I clean them with hot water and a scotch brite pad. Heat them until dry.
I reseason and burn them after every cook.
Store dry. No rust.
But I do sand the shite out of my pots when new.

Have just crisco for over 40 years on then. No problem
