Validated his tag.

News says he claimed it.

I'm probably wrong, but I assumed that the tags are mainly for seasonal harvest report purposes, a way to monitor how many are taken in each zone.

Is LDWF actually actively monitoring each and every tag that is validated? If so, dude was begging to get caught if by "claim" the news means he actually validated a tag for that.

10-point deer in the off-season. Randall Tabor, 58, allegedly harvested the deer off his property on July 26.

Should be perfectly legal.

You're being downvoted but it's true.

We don't live in a monarchy and these aren't the king's deer.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for an alleged deer hunting violation on Aug. 10 in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Agents cited Randall Tabor, 58, of Baker, for taking a deer during a closed season.

On Aug. 1, agents received information about a 10-point deer that was taken from a Baker residence during a closed season. During the investigation, agents determined that Tabor harvested the deer.

Agents made contact with Tabor and he admitted to taking the deer off his property in Baker on July 26 with a rifle. Agents seized the deer antlers and deer meat and donated the meat to a local charity.

Taking a deer during a closed season brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Tabor may also face civil restitution totaling $2,033 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.

Agents participating in the case are Senior Agent Hunter Pearson, Corporal Trey Coats, Sgt. Ed Ridgel and Agent Ethan Arbour.

Almost got a beautiful 10 point in velvet last night. He just refused to make the leap in front of my truck.

Year round harvesting is what basically wiped them out. Conservation is a real thing, and it works.

overharvesting is what basically wiped them out. if you have an annual limit, what difference does it make when you shoot the buck?

I don't think we necessarily disagree. But old Randall probably does what he wants across months and limits, and I figure anyone poaching or skirting the rules is lax about it in multiple ways and not just one.
