I thought about him banging his head when i heard he submerged to swim back to boat. But i would have thought somebody would have heard it. I know we were bobbing around a good bit, some off those waves had no back side. We had props come out a couple times mid morning trolling.

Prayers for the family and friends...

Hat: A friend of mine was good friends with one of yours that was lost last year...he helped clean out the boat and and odds and ends for the wife...said it was a tough thing to do...He called me on his way home and dropped off an amberjack for the freezer...I've only spearfished the gulf a few times in the 90's and it was unnerving at times...up until last year, I was considering a couple of trips...but after last years accident and being 45 with two young kids and a wife myself, I decided against it...

It's tragic and my heart goes out to them...God Bless

Sounds like a terrible situation...sorry for all those involved.
Someone mentioned that he may have passed out when he came up....is that common? If so, what causes that? Coming up too fast?
I've never done this, so just trying to get some frame of reference.

Called shallow water blackout. Usually ocurs before breaking the surface and usually to free divers, not scuba. However the bends with a nitrogen embolism could cause him to pass out after coming up if he was down too long or came up too fast. Tragic

Well, thats another kick in the nuts.
Having experienced first hand more than one of these type of situations, the only certain thing is, there are always more questions than answers...

frick I'm bad mojo. Second time in a row I've been on top of this shite. BT and crew showed up as I was pulling off that rig to troll. I've had a fricked up week.

Question for the divers... is there something y'all can strap to y'all with GPS locator or something on it? Like with a timer set that if a dive time limit was exceeded then it would activate allowing someone to locate y'all? I know nothing of diving really

Prayers sent to the family. Never been spear fishing but I've been on the boat a few times in the past with a guy that took some risks. Hope they find the guy on a rig tomorrow.

Boats have EPIRBS but a diver does not.

I have an 8' Orange inflatable tube

kind of like this:

Your best bet as a stranded diver in the GOM off of Louisiana's coast is to find a platform in the distance and angle yourself towards that platform
