What was the name of charter captain out of vencie that died diving a few years back maybe 8 years ago...

name of his boat was Magic i think

Real nice dude

Mike Adams. Worked with his Dad at the plant for years, and fished with Mike pretty often. I think the theory on Mike was he had an undiagnosed heart condition similar to what Pistol Pete and Don Redden had, if I remember correctly. Never met a nicer guy. RIP.

Very sad news indeed. I have one question though. If he was at the surface why wasn't his BC inflated?

Maybe because of the current

I don't always inflate mine, makes it easier to swim against current

BUT I need to make a habit of inflating

If the current was bad he may have been trying to get back down and swim back to the boat beneath the surface currents. Just a thought.

Prayers sent for him and his family. Hopefully he's still hanging in there.

Exactly.. I posted this in the GMT earlier:

The article says he surfaced behind the boat then went under and never came back up

I'm assuming he went under to break the surface current. It is VERY easy to get disoriented when doing this.

A few years ago we had been diving blue water all day. Moved in closer and there was some nasty water, couldnt see but 5-10ft. When I flopped over I pointed towards the structure and started kicking while going down. I kept going and going, never seeing any pipe. I got down to 100' and realized I must have missed the platform. I was able to keep my calm and begin the accent. When I surfaced, I was 100yds behind the boat, down current. No one saw me, no one was looking that way. I was able to kick my arse off and made it back to the boat. This was a weak current. The surface current this weekdn (and this time of year) was ripping. So that is easily one possibility.

another is that the fish that he shot could have somehow wrapped his leg and took him down

but this is all my speculation. I don't know

Only thing i can think of besides being pulled down by a sea monster would be a loss of consciousness when he hit the surface. As a diver you get secure with the water and forget of the inherent dangers.

another very high possibility

He also had a grouper with him (which I presumed to be dead by the tail up comment) but his cable could have been loosely wrapped around his leg. If a shark grabbed the fish and pulled down, Tim would have been pulled down as well. Or if the grouper decided to take off for one last run

I was snapper fishing in the ST 81 block when it happened and I heard all of the radio chatter. Really a bad situation.

My first though was current, but that's a possibility as well ry. I hate to see this, but was happy with the response and Blake terry foundation. There is a reason I am a monthly donator.

dam hat, sorry to hear this.

as a fellow diver i am always trying to think ahead, to think of what if. sometimes though, i get caught up in the moment.

unfortunatley it takes things like this to put things back in prespective.

prayers to the family

Never did recover him. Tried like hell though.

The problem is, there was a strong surface current and the guys diving noticed that when they got to the bottom of the rig, there was a strong bottom current going a different direction

just seems like there may be closure if they were able to recover him. that must make it even worse.
