An Ankona came through my friend's shop the other day and it's the first time I've ever given one a really detailed going over. Lots of imperfections in that boat.
The last one I looked at came the rub rail installed with wood screws, same for the push pole holders. Poling platform was installed backwards.
This is not the same Ankona as mentioned previously.

Would you buy a skiff from someone who installs their push pole holders with deck screws? And yes, that's the gelcoat pealing off under the rub rail.

That's rough. Thanks for the insight/info.

Yeah Mel straight fricked over a bunch of people with this boat. From what I've been told Ankona stopped all communications when pictures of the hull were sent to them.

My thinking: By a used hull and new motor. Looking to spend 4-5k.
I've been looking for something similar to you but they aren't as easy to come by as you might think. Wider aluminum hulls are in pretty high demand, and it seems people tend to keep them. They pop up, but you need to have the cash in your pocket. Another concern is people are usually unwilling to separate the POS johnson they have beat to shite on the back of it, so that adds to cost.
After a lot of frustration I'm leaning more towards a new hull with the features I want and a used motor that I can replace if it lets go. A 16 ft alweld with trailer can be had somewhere in the neighborhood of 4K, then try and get a deal on a used 2 stroke.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm going to be checking craigslist and lasportsman regularly, anywhere else I should look?
Also, any used motors to look for, (known for reliability) and any I should stay away from?

Yamaha sucks. Definitely don't offer a dime on a carbed two stroke that you see for sale anywhere from houston to mobile. Post a link to it here though so others know to stay away.

Lol. I was about to post that the 2 stroke hammers have a cult following but didn't want to screw over anyone searching for one.

Theoretically, how much would someone be looking to sell something like that for?

Good question, I would have to ask. I don't know much about the hydrotech motors other than they are fast.

Yamaha was always my first choice but also read a lot about Tohatsu but don't anyone who has one.
Just looking for suggestions from people with more experience, I've only owned one boat.
I know the best deals aren't usually the one's posted online but if I do see something, I'll be sure to post a picture after I pick it up.
