ran lines once with crawfish we caught from the ditch on the side of the road. Pulled off the claws. Worked well for catfish lines back then.

Yeah..except I'm going to have to make her release them. She caught one a few weeks ago that the bait was bigger then the fish. She wanted to keep it(granted it was the only fish she caught).

I never thought about using them for redfish.
We used to use them for catfish on a dropshot/tightline type rig when the river came up behind the levee in the spring. Had to use a lot of weight to keep contact with the bottom with the insane current in the Mississippi. Worked pretty well.

We used to bait catfish lines with them too. But then we started catching big snapping turtles on the gizzards livers and small perch.Of course this was back in the late 60's early 70's. I dont know if you could catch turtles like that anymore.

It works great, the fish in my pond kill em.

Don't weight them down, let em swim down.

I have and the problem is it that the crawfish die once it hits the salt water, second problem is that if you dont break the claws off it scares the fish away.

Farthest thing from the truth. They will not die once they hit saltwater. They will live at least 10-15 minutes. Plus you can pull them back out if needed. The claws do not scare redfish away. Remember reds eat whole crabs so I doubt a crawfish claw would deter them. I have slammed the reds before on crawfish. Usually around easter at my camp I will keep about 20 or so after a boil and use them. Plus you rig them through the tall and they will never come off.

Little crawfish are the best chinquapin (sp) bait there is. Since I was old enough to remember dad would send me out around the house hitting ditches and catching baby crawfish. Catch a ton of bream and bar none the best bait for big chinks.

I had a couple hundred last week but ended up going with the crickets.

How do you hook 'em anyway? (The little tiny crawfish, that is) Through tail and let head hang or through head and let tail hang.

We always run the tip through where tail enters the body and poke it out the chest. Any other hookin style will result in many a snatched free crawfish.

Thanks. I run mine through the underside of head and out tail. Bigger ones I hook through the tail. Have caught catfish like that and many goo.
