wearing the rib cage out lost me, unless you drug it across a Walmart Parking lot.

I swear it happened once. It was a sad-lookign deer by the time we got it out. We were hunting late season on Choccolocco WMA in N. AL. My dad shot a small 8 pt. just before dark. It wasn't a great hit and we had to track it (with a lantern btw) for quite a while. The deer in that area were stocked from up north many years ago, so the rut is earlier than usual. After tracking it a while, I found one of its antlers that had dropped off. We tracked it a while longer and found the other antler, just before finding the deer dead in a small creek. Something had already chewed a hole in one hindquarter. Then, we drug it for miles, some of it on a dirt road, and by the time we got back to the truck (late at night) we'd drug a hole in the ribcage. It was a sorry looking deer by that point - two bloody spots where his antlers had been, a chewed hind quarter, and a hole through his ribcage.

That story probably just makes it less believable, but it's true.

Oh, and the overstatement of the frozen temps. It gets super cold like twice a year. And we have all been cold.

Did I say I was hunting in southern LA?

I don't even enjoy hunting in a box stand. I think you're mad at rich/more fortunate people, but I mean you got a hawk bro so just focus on that.

You're acting like there weren't people who could afford comfortable hunting arrangements 30 years ago. It's not impossible to just hunt without modern convenience if that's what you really want. I'm 26 and I hunt almost exclusively on shitty land in ladder stands with cheap equipment, but I don't wear it like a badge of honor, it's just what I can afford right now.

Been deer hunting 31 years. Spent many a day in an old Amacker climber or a ladder stand I made from 2x4s. Froze my arse off, soaked to the bone, walking in and out.

I now love a box stand and a 4 wheeler. Sometimes the "good old days" weren't so good at the time

There is a group of hunters that lie right in between "hunt out of condos, park UTV under said condo, kill only wall hangers, stay in camps that make houses look drab, smoke Cubans from the balcony, sipping aged brandy and talking about the stock market " and "walked uphill both ways to the stand, which was no more than a piece of plywood nailed into the fork of the tree to hide behind, carrying all gear to go see 2 nubbin bucks, killed one and dragged it all the way to the camp, which was no more than 4 sheets of plywood and duct tape, and built fire to cook it all because it took too long to get it our to the processors."

I like to think im in that group
