Been hunting all my life and have done it both ways. When Dad was alive we drove three wheelers under box stand or 2x4 ladder stand and hunted. Had camper with everyhting we needed. Now I hunt in a shack with no power or water, wood stove for heat and still have a great time. It just about being out there with family and God. It's all in what you make of it fellas.

This is more of a $ than age thing. I am currently in the broke category which lead to to hunting over crowded public land with the same 2nd pair of waders with the leak in the crotch that I have had since I switched from using my dads old rubber/canvas waders. All this to be at the hole for 3am to usually kill a handful of ducks. Damn near certifiable crazy.

Pretty solid.
We ALL have it pretty good, and with technology and product quality, there is no way around it.
Even the cheapest of boots, gloves and guns are still halfway decent enough not to make a man completely miserable in the woods.
I guess the guy standing in front of that car with 73 limits of ducks could say the same thing about this generations "old school hunters"

Holy frick. Ok guys. You win. I don't want to argue with you about shite I didn't say. Some of you are a sensitive bunch. What was meant as a good-natured thread has not gone as planned.
I don't think I'm better than other hunters. I barely even deer hunt now. I know tons of people still do things the way I did when I was a kid. I know some people don't - and I have ZERO problem with what others do. There are some types of hunting that I don't enjoy personally, but I think most people feel the same way I do. I'm not special. I figured just about everyone here had the same stories I had. I think I went wrong with my thread title, which really wasn't the point of my post. I didn't start it to talk about how easy things are today - I know it is still difficult, and in some ways, more difficult. I probably should have named the thread, "Things Used to Suck."
Anyway, do what you want. That's what I do. I'm not making fun of you.

Those threads don't usually start out with

I look around and read this board and it seems like 90% of the hunters these days are staying in nice camps, and sitting in warm box stands, and looking out over herds of deer while waiting to select a big one to shoot with their scoped $1000 rifle.
I guess there's nothing wrong with that, but how many of you older guys remember how we used to do it? I'm not OLD, but I am 37 and I've hunted all my life

In short, most of you newbs are pansies
AGAIN, none of this shite has anything to do with age.. A lot of guys on here are telling you that they STILL have to hunt like that. Hell, I have some of the niceties, and still hunt like that a lot of times myself. Im not offended by anything you said, A) because none of it really pertains to me, because im not really a newb to hunting and im not extremely wealthy. B) because I value your opinion very little on here.
But dont try ot hate on "90% of the board" and expect a "good natured thread"

I'm gonna stay all Switzerland up in here. Last thing I need is to walk down my driveway to get the morning paper and have a hawk tear my face off.

At least I don't have a bird flying around killing stuff for me
In all seriousness though, my buddy's dad hunts all over, in the best places in the country and even out of the country. Why does he do it? Because he has the money to. He grew up hunting hard, and doesn't have to anymore

this is a pissing match to rival the tards over at Louisiana Sportsman. Some of those guys get their tampon string stuck in the keyboard daily. I refuse to go on the site anymore.

Guys, at no point did I say that we should still do it that way. I don't. I wear warm clothes. I have a much better bow and arrows. I use google earth to find hunting spots. I use disposable hand warmers. I don't wear cotton thermals. I hunt wherever there is the most deer. Etc. Etc. I would join a lease, if I had that kind of money to put into hunting. I might even hunt out of a box stand on a rainy day. People are reading things into my comments that I never meant.
