I'll probably end up with a few people knowing who I am from these pics but it doesn't matter I'm not that important. Second saddle hunt ever first hunt in the woods on this piece of property (I've only hunted the fields with a rifle). I got dropped off at 1:30 and started slipping into the hardwoods. I made it about 200yds total and bumped a deer so I found a tree and set up. I was all settled in by 2:15 and by 4:00 I had deer feeding through. Missed the same doe twice due to stupid mistakes on my part. First shot I settled the 30 yard pin and watched the arrow go right under her and then realized she was at my 40 yd mark. Second shot I hit a limb. She never left just went back up the ridge and started feeding cautiously both times. Well I decided she earned the right to live or I needed to throw my bow away either one. Well about 4:45 I see movement behind her and it's this 8 and a tall 6. She was still acting nervous and not wanting to come back down the ridge so they never committed. Two long deep grunts and 3 short grunts and here comes the 8 down the ridge to 30 yds. He stopped in the opening and I let it fly. I finally gained my composure climbed down and found great blood. I never heard him crash due to the amount of deer that took off behind him in the thicket, 75 yards later he was piled up. I called my girlfriend to bring my 2 year old lab. I have scent trained with him but never put him on an actual trail. I brought him to the shot and within 45 seconds he was sitting at the deer as proud as can be. First bow buck is officially checked and now I can focus on mature bucks with my bow while the kids fill the freezer.
