I don't think Chad has an issue with the round itself, he just thinks it's a bad idea to get a single shot rifle.
Yeah, I would never drop that amount of money on a single shot and be that limited with the rifle especially that being my main rifle.

Taking the round out of the equation, is the Thompson Center Pro Hunter a quality rifle. I say it's not even comparable to the Remington 700 or even the Tikka T3. It carries a lifetime warranty,
Ask tommy boy what he thinks about lifetime warranties.

American made and a damn fine looking rifle.
We definitely have different tastes in rifles.

Exactly and I can then put the .243 barrel on it and have a gun for my son.
So you're already planning on dropping this $1400 rig down to a 12 day rifle or a future son gun that probably won't like it either.
GREAT

You do what you want. I think that it would be a great idea to get it. I've got one and have never had any problems with it. You won't regret getting this gun.

No, I'm saying that when the time comes to hand to the gun to my son I can get me a nice bolt action rifle.

Just do that now.

Let your son have input in the gun he wants.

I'll sell you my .280 A bolt. This will allow me to buy another barrel and part of a scope for my TC...

This guy not only buys his rifles in parts, he buys his scopes in parts as well.

Na, i'll pitch in the rest for the scope. I guess I'm not as strapped for cash as some. Also, apparently I shoot a lot better than those same people...

My opinion is that TC makes quality firearms. I would like to have one of those you referenced.
Also, that's what this chick uses:

The new rules in Mississippi about being to use a 45/70 and guns like the one you want in the primitive seasons went into effect 4-5 years ago IIRC.
For the past couple of years I been hearing of hunters who have given up their traditional deer rifles (270, 30-06) in favor of those handi rifles for hunting all season long (sans bow of course).
I wouldn't think having a single shot would be a issue at all. All but one of the deer I've killed needed no more than one shot and as far as the one that needed two shots I would've had enough time to reload a single shot and make the final kill.
I personally don't care for the TC you have pictured but if it rocks your boat then by all means go for it.
Bottom line, don't let anyone talk you out of getting it just because its a single shot.

I will of course get what I want in the long run.
I'm not hung up on the fact that it's a single shot, I've actually gotten past this. I'm more about the MOA of the Pro Hunter and if getting "two" rifles in one that I can hunt all year is worth the $800 out the door price. I think it is..

I have and t/c muzzle loader shoots great ,while everyone is dicking around with there muzzleloaders trying to sight them in im at the camp drinking beer and relaxing. As far as the single shot goes i have had to make a couple of follow up shots on a deer so im no sure about the single shot
