Switch all your crew to illegals and pay them half the wages, everybody wins

Well just got done reading yals bitch fest. Like I said before I love farmers and would actually like to be one but I am not a fan of the subsides. As one who comes from cattle ranchers I understand what most of yal are taking about in having to grow something then ask someone how much they are going to pay for it. It is the profession you have chosen, you knew what you were getting into so stop the belly aching.

Speaking of farmers eating Ruth Chris. Back when I was in college, we had a select few of well known farmers from the area always come into the restaurant on rainy days and kill a handle of crown all afternoon....and they would drop a couple hundred as a tip every time. Those tips were put back into the local beer drinking economy that night.
It's the socialistic circle of life.

I've read a little about them and how they do some shady stuff to put smaller farms out of business that do not use their seed. It's a little on the conspiracy side but believable.

If it weren't for the farmers where would we get our deer corn from?

He's from God's country, NELA. I'm betting the guys he described are from Richland Parish.

I never venture to this board and after searching "farm" due to a discussion on the poli board, I came across this.
Without reading this entire thread, I'd just like to share a little.
FYI our family farm took out an operating loan for nearly 1 million dollars this year ..
The subsidies that we got for this year = about 80,000 or .08% of our loan amount.
I personally drive a 2003 Ford Expedition that we bought from my mother in law.
My husband drives a 2010 F150 (totalled previous truck when some old man hit him)
My son drives a 1999 Ford 250 hand me down that my husband drove until 2008.
My kids have never been to Disneyworld. My kids have never been skiing.
NOT ALL FARMING families live high on the hog that I can tell you. I work part time to be able to be with my kids for after school and their activities etc, as my husband works typically from the time the sun comes up until when it goes down. Hell there have been times this past spring where he was planting rice until 2 in the morning to "beat the weather".
For the record, he loves what he does ... he's operated his farm very conservatively and we've never not paid a bill or a loan off on time.
He's got a BS and an MS from LSU. He would LOVE for there to be NO subsidies at all ... thinks that the markets would correct themselves.
He actually sat and figured out one year the number of people that his crop alone fed based on the average amount of rice consumed per person per year. I don't remember the numbers but my God I was floored when he figured it out.
Yes, some genius in the poli thread about this said to do away with farms and use it for development ... I asked where the hell our food was going to come from. Funny I never got an answer.
Many of you have very valid points ... just please don't lump all farmers into the same catergory. We're not all alike ... just as "every team has "those" fans", well every profession has "those people".

Ole, thank you ... I got tired of fighting the uglies who seem to not like food on the Money board once ... and then on the OT once.
Really just wanted to say we're not all like that! Hell my kids have qualified for free lunch before and guess what??? We didn't take it!
