either or. could sell it as fill dirt.
Like I said, a creek, or some people dig a well that you can turn on and off to keep it at a constant level. That can get pricey though. Or you can just wait for rainwater to fill it up.

It totally depends on topography of the land, the soil composition, the ground water level, and land owner preference.
A simple shallow stock tank (for watering cattle) can be easily dug in a day.
Sometimes the dirt is used to simply build a dam to block off a stream or natural spring thus filling the lake or pond. Sometimes the dirt is used for other purposes (borrow pits common near overpasses).
I real nice pond will have a spillway and/or soem form of overflow pipe to control the level of the water.

A 5 acre pond? That would take quite a while. Interesting stuff, thanks guys.

Exactly. Years.
I tried finding a video of the process, to no avail.

That's some dedication.

Yep, which is why you typically want to dig one that has creek flow or you plan on digging a well.

Dude, if I could pick up a chick while talking about pond digging and fish stocking, I'd ask her to marry me on the spot.

Can't really blame you there
although watch what you wish for, you may have a 300 pounder in the pond business that would get hot listening to you earth removal talk
ETA: just realized Bleeding Purp probably thought you were black because of the combo of Ron Washington and Nelson Cruz

could very well be true. However, do I post like a black man? Or do things (most) blacks males enjoy doing? Namely diving? And... have you ever met a black male named Blake?

Very funny, I was talking about the people who build a pond only to wait years for it to fill
I love everything outdoors, grew up in the country and only had brothers to play with. Just like learning about stuff like that. Starting to get back into fishing more so I'm like a sponge around here.

We have a bayou running through the land, plus where we want to dig, constantly holds water now. We were looking at getting a well to keep it filled. Does teh Wildlife and Fisheries donate fish? I had a friend of mine in Mississippi get some donated.

Actually I have, it was short for Blakehavious but all the same.
Visual input is huge and despite my better inclination, I couldn't get it out of my head you are black.

One. ONE. My past dive trip to Coz. He was actually cool as shite though. Which isn't surprising I guess, because he's a diver. Most divers are pretty cool.
