I think this is what I ordered for her:
Chews
Food
Bones
Cosequin
She wasn't grossly overweight, but getting her weight down and exercising her everyday to keep her limber were big factors, also. I didn't give her all of these things at the same time, obviously, but anything I did give her had a joint health component to it. The chews and Cosequin really seemed to work great, and I could tell if I was out of town and they weren't given to her properly.

I've always heard ibuprofen can be toxic to dogs and cause ulcers in their stomachs. Baby aspirin is what is usually recommended for pain.
This. Just visited the vet last week, and he said advil/motrin can kill them.

Awesome info. Thanks for that, I'll definitely try those things out. He's gets a pretty good bit of exercise with the two boys (10 & 6). You can tell when he's had enough and worn slap out but still wants to play.
Think I'll take my chances on the ibuprofen on the really bad days, and change his diet.

My ol dog is pushing 12 years old. When he gets up from napping he looks like a stove up 90yr old man. He jumped out the truck with me yesterday, hit the ground and I had to help him up.
My dog is 11 years old and still rides with me everywhere. But I never let him jump in or out of my truck. I always pick him up. He only weighs about 65 lbs. He hurt his hip last year jumping out so I put a stop to that.

I use Meloxicam once in awhile when my dog needs it after a long walk and he acts like he is hurting.
It is not hard to get a Vet to write a script for this and you can give it PRN.

Baby aspirin unless you want to risk killing him or speeding up his ultimate demise.

Yeah, Tank is pushing 100lbs. But I should start loading him if I can.

Baby aspirin for a dog @ 100lbs?
Posted on 12/18/15 at 6:29 pm to ChandlerB03
Preface: I'm not a vet.
Buffered aspirin 5 milligrams per pound as needed up to 2 X daily
It doesn't have to be "baby aspirin," just buffered. Vets say baby aspirin because they are usually 80 milligrams and easier when figuring dosages across the board.

Cosequin, you will be very impressed with the results & your ol buddy will thank you

Ah I see. Thanks for the input. Think the diet change, cosequin and an aspirin when needed is what I'll try out for a while.
I'll keep you updated.

Edited. Buffered aspirin is what you should use-not enteric coated.
