I caught her in Laguna Madre in Port Mansfield. Our best 5 went over 35 pounds and best 10 was over 64 pounds over two days, all on top water with the exception of a few fish. I was unprepared for how many fish we were going to catch. Our 4 guys probably caught 100 trout and 20-30 reds each day. That place is special and we are going back this December.

Did you string her and walk back boat for pics? Buddy sent me a pic of his 9# trout from December taken next to boat. I cpr asap and release where landed but pics from Texas are mostly at boat.

No, I actually walked the fish to the boat to meet the guide that had a net. She had it choked and wasn’t fighting a ton so I just kept tension and took my time walking 30 or so yards. The captain freaked out when he saw her and jumped in to finish the job with the net. We once we had her secure, we were very careful with her to make sure she was in good shape for release. My buddy stuck one almost 7 within a minute of me catching this one so he did the same thing and we were able to get pictures of them both and release them together.

Don't say that too loud The traffic there now is so much worse than it was 10 or 15 years ago it is crazy. I got in a pissing match with a googan drifting in front of our wade about 7 or 8 years ago and I said then I'd never go back on a weekend, and I haven't. That was in January by the way. The remoteness is the biggest thing it has going for it, you got to want to go to get that far south. 10 years ago you could count on one hand the number of guides wading down there in the winter, now there are probably at least 50 "traveling guides" that book trips down there in the winter. It has taken pressure off other places like Rockport and POC so that is nice. You get that many guides in one small place and issues are sure to arise, they have this year, some left early, next year should interesting.

Call something paradise, kiss it good bye.
Pressure and environmental are the bigs on any water body. Sabine is the only unspoiled gem on the gulf coast today. If Sabine were more accessible from the east it would be another big lake with a hundred guides trying to make a living.
Thankfully it’s not.

I always wanted to wade fish in Texas.. Thats where the big ones are.

My best 10 was 56lbs. Little Lagoon Gulf Shores on topwater.

June Fullmoon on topwater.

The 30in i caught only weighed 7lbs. She spit here roe out few weeks earlier.
Probably would have weighed 8.5 to 9. in April or May She is on my wall now. Beautiful skin mount

We had a fun time! I like throwing top water at night. The fish are less pressured

Skin mount still looks good after several years
